Mums who had episiotomies??

Mums who had episiotomies during their first birth, how did your next birth go? Did you have to have another episiotomy or did you have any bad tearing?
I'm currently pregnant with my second. I had an episiotomy and forceps with dd and I'm scared of going through it again with my second.

I had minor tearing second time round. No episiotomy abd much quicker healing etc.

Seeline · 25/11/2019 18:46

I had one and the tore with a ventouse delivery first time. Second time was fine, slight graze.

Soontobe60 · 25/11/2019 18:47

Very big episiotomy first time as baby was posterior presenting.
No tears or cuts second time, with a much bigger baby.

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 25/11/2019 18:48

I had one and second time round I had a small tear but nothing serious and healed really quickly.

NamiSwan · 25/11/2019 18:49

I had an episiotomy with my first. My second birth was a home birth with a very minor tear which needed a few stitches but it was so much less painful and healed so much quicker and easier than the episiotomy the first time round!

HirplesWithHaggis · 25/11/2019 18:49

I also had episiotomy and forceps for ds1. Ds2 was bigger but I managed without either cut or tear, though came close.

Norugratsatall · 25/11/2019 19:03

Yes episiotomies with both of mine! First one was a forceps delivery and doc stitched me so tight I couldn't poo for weeks! (it was 4 am and he'd been woken up!) Second time I begged the midwife 'no episiotomy ' and she was I was stretching nicely... and then the baby swallowed meconium and she had to cut me to get baby out quick! Wasn't nearly as bad as the first time though....

emelsie · 25/11/2019 19:04

I had an episiotomy with both births , neither were forceps , first time was to get baby out quickly as heart rate dropped , second time I am not sure why.

It was what I dreaded most both times round but was much better prepared second time round and knew what would help and the healing seemed much easier .

Like other posters, I had an episiotomy with my first. It was right and horrible after. With my second I did have another second degree tear, actually along the scar of the episiotomy. The repair was such an improvement, much neater, much less tight, and much more comfortable. It also healed really quickly, unlike the first one!

flissity · 25/11/2019 19:31

I had an episiotomy with my first. Induced labour with forceps.

2nd birth was spontaneous water birth. I did tear a bit and was sewn up after by mw with gas and air.

I healed much quicker 2nd time around. Episiotomy with first child was a long and drawn out recovery.

3rd birth... don’t know .. yet!

Namechanger23455 · 25/11/2019 19:34

First time around spinal in theatre - epistomey and forceps.

Recovery fine but it was a deep cut and stitches internally too.

2nd time around Midwife cut slightly to help DD head out, stitches in surgery (placenta stuck to abdominal wall so had to be manually removed). Recovery so easy and healed within a few days

BirdandSparrow · 25/11/2019 19:37

I had one with a ventouse birth with DS. It was stitched (very good job according to my midwife) and was uncomfortable for a few weeks. But I think it was all the rummaging and the ventouse as much as the stitches.

Tore slightly along the scar 3 years later with DD so had some stitches, but it healed much better, probably because she was born without intervention, so didn't have the same rummaging around and hands and ventouse up my fange as the first time.

R2D2abc · 25/11/2019 19:39

Episiotomy with first, it took quite a lot to heal properly and felt discomfort in the area for a long time.

With my second vaginal birth didn't need an episiotomy, but got quite bad tearing as my baby came all at once( head, shoulders and everything in one push). But healing was quicker to be honest and I had a few tears and loads of stitches.

Berthatydfil · 25/11/2019 19:39

Had an epidural with no 1. Couldn’t feel to push and baby got distressed so needed episiotomy and forceps and tore as well.
Episiotomy healed better than tear so had it been necessary again I wouldn’t have objected.
No 2 and 3 (no epidurals in either ) were quite quick Labours and I ended up with slight grazing and no stitches.

Aquamarine1029 · 25/11/2019 19:40

I had one with both babies and they healed very quickly with no issues whatsoever.

RainbowTortoise · 25/11/2019 21:14

I had an episiotomy with my first. After having my second and third, I had a tear among the scar of the episiotomy (second degree). Stitched up fairly easily and healed quickly with no problems.

Jowak1 · 25/11/2019 21:22

I had an episiotomy with my first baby who was 9lbs then with my second no episiotomy just a few stitches and my second was 10lbs 5 ounces.
