Pregnacare Max and diarrhoea

Hi All,

I am 6 weeks pregnant and I have been taking Pregnacare Max for the last 2 weeks with my prescribed folic acid (I have a BMI of over 30).

I have been taking it on a full stomach as directed but I have noticed I get quite a bad upset stomach an hour or so after. I don’t get any cramping and it settles after a while but I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem?

Also should I stop taking them? My husband says that any vitamins they’re giving me I’m loosing when I go to the toilet but surely some are being absorbed? I know it’s important I get these vitamins so unsure what to do!

Thanks

X

As you have an obese bmi you need vitamins more than anyone as your baby won’t be able to absorb either folic acid or vitamin d properly. See a doctor about the loose bowels - it can be a normal symptom, but with your bmi it could also indicate progesterone insufficiency. Better safe than sorry.

I found the same for pregnacare even when I took them at night I think it’s the iron in them doesn’t agree with my tummy! .. my midwife suggested swapping vitamins. I’m 10 weeks now & I’ve switch to Superdrug pregnancy support which just have folic acid , vit b,c and d in& ive been fine since x

It's only folic acid and vitamin D that's recommended in pregnancy. Theres been a few posts with pregnacare causing issues so I'd maybe try an alternative

Pregnacare gave me a funny tum too, so I switched to plain folic acid and vit D. Talk to your GP before stopping anything
