I've been constipated the whole week, didn't know I was pregnant. Last night I took Senna. This morning finding out I am pregnant (which is such a fantastic news) but now tonight I am really sick as hell with diarrhoea. I am now very sorry that Senna is not safe for pregnancy. Anyone has experience with a safe outcome ? Thank you

It isn't recommended because it can cause contractions of the uterus as well as the colon. You will probably be fine. Drink lots of water.

I would try and speak to your GP or pharmacist. Senna can be used in late pregnancy to treat severe constipation but it is considered most risky in the first trimester - I can’t remember if it’s because there hasn’t been any testing or whether it’s for theraputic vs preventative doses.

I seem to recall a colleague who said Lactulose is recommended for pregnant women BUT take under the care of a GP only, it's not worth any risk
