Craving salami!

I'm craving a pack of salami like the ones you get from the supermarket. But I know pregnant women aren't meant to eat it because of the toxoplasmosis risk! It's just typical that I'm craving pretty much one of the only things that I can't have Hmm

Is hot pepperoni on a pizza ok?

Cooked is fine. I had a massive pepperami craving last pregnancy,...

leghairdontcare · 22/11/2019 17:30

Freeze it first, or cook it.

or just eat it NHS doesn't say not to eat salami. Just points out that there's a toxoplasmosis risk.

Freeze it for 3 days, kills the toxo, then defrost and enjoy Smile

Omg yes! I mean no maybe don’t eat a pack of salami but I’m exactly the same. Only things I’ve REALLY wanted include: Brie, Deli meats, prawns at every meal, wine and strangely - Baileys.

I’ve not given in but OH MY WORD May seems so far away sometimes and so close at others. 😩

What else have you craved? I haven’t had anything majorly specific xx

Ooooh, I had no idea that was an option! You lot are lifesavers, thank you!!

I'm also due in May! I wouldn't say I'm craving wine, but I do miss it a LOT. Other than that it's just the salami at the moment - plus gherkins/pickled onions!

Brie - cook it

Deli meats - freeze or cook as above

Prawns at every meal - you can eat prawns, unless you want to eat raw prawns?!

wine and strangely - Baileys. - Those can probably wait Grin

dementedpixie · 22/11/2019 17:36

Brie - ok if heated first
prawns at every meal - cooked prawns are fine to eat

I wanted peperami sticks so bad yesterday even though i have eaten them in years Hmm might buy a pack and freeze them and indugle now Grin

brightbird · 22/11/2019 17:40

Might be needing the iron... I'm a veggie but had a short-lived lamb chop craving a couple of months ago. Ate lots of greens and other iron rich things and craving went!

dementedpixie · 22/11/2019 17:42

Peperami is pasteurised so I imagine that they are safe to eat.

SexlessBoulderBelly · 22/11/2019 18:17

I’m 32 weeks now and I never stopped eating cheese or cured meats if brought from the shop. Haven’t eaten them off the counter or in places where I don’t know where they’ve come from. But I’ve brought packs of salami and chorizo from he shop and eaten them.

I don’t eat it every day but I’ve had it a few times when I’ve fancied it. I haven’t really stopped living my normal life.. except I have quit smoking and I haven’t sneak and won’t drink until after baby is here. But food wise I’ve just gone with what I feel is right for me.

commanderdalgliesh · 22/11/2019 18:23

Just eat it. It will be fine.

commanderdalgliesh · 22/11/2019 18:28

Don't smoke. Drink in moderation. Eat whatever you want apart from too much liver. Do your own research. I've said before that my midwife told me not to eat prawns or smoked salmon. Absolute bollocks.

Smoked salmon? That's a new one. I've eaten it several times!

@commanderdalgliesh drink in moderation? What do you call in moderation? I’ve been absolutely gagging for a glass of wine but drinking and smoking have been the two things I really haven’t had while pregnant.

How often and how much do you drink? I’ll feel so much less guilty having a glass knowing I’m not being completely frowned upon!

commanderdalgliesh · 23/11/2019 07:22

One glass of wine won't do any harm! Wouldn't go for two myself but it still probably won't do any harm.

sleepingdogssnore · 23/11/2019 08:14

Really fancy a beer and salami. Ha don't even drink beer regularly. I seem to only crave it when pregnant. Not so long for me to wait depending on when baby turns up. 6-8 weeks countdown ! Although I found last time that alcohol was not something I fancied once baby arrived just needed 24 hours of sleep, a cuppa tea and a kit kat or seven.

emiliet123 · 23/11/2019 11:13

@leghairdontcare and @dementedpixie what?! I’ve been told it’s only okay if it’s not more than once or twice a week! I literally just LOVE the texture of prawns haha! In a curry, in a salad, on their own with garlic butter 🤤 ALSO someone at work made a comment when I had a prawn linguine and it made me feel a bit shitty about it 😩

Someone I know said they had a small glass of wine on Fridays - just once a week, and she’s got two kids. I think a tipple now and then is okay, but I don’t want to get into the habit, so I’m saving it for Christmas and having a baileys hot chocolate! Only a small one, of course 😜

@wondering7777 ah no way! What’s you’re due date? Mine is 15th xx
