Please could someone recommend how I can get rid of a terrible terrible headache/migraine? I'm 11 + 5 today and this headache started yesterday morning. I'm not sure if it was KFC the previous night that caused it as I had a similar headache from a Chinese last month, I've always had a slight MSG intolerance but pregnancy seems to have ramped it up 😫I will never touch the stuff again.

I feel shocking. It's one of those headaches where every time you stand up or move it feels like your head may explode. I've drank about 4 litres of water, I've lay down most of the day but just tried a warm bath. Nothing is easing it and it's making me cry! I'm a bit scared of painkillers following multiple miscarriages but I did give in to paracetamol yesterday and it did absolutely nothing.

Does anyone have a suggestion please?

Apparently paracetamol and a can of full fat coke... I've seen many that has been recommended this by their midwife so worth a try?? Other than that I would say maybe speak with mw or GP to see if you can be prescribed anything stronger x

Rainbow1982 sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell, I would recommend going into your emergency maternity unit and getting it checked out, it might be nothing at all or it might be the food your eating may trigger the headaches, I don't have a lot of advice but I know it's best to get a professionals advice and not leave it to long to get checked up. Wishing you all the best

Thanks boymummy, I'm going to try paracetamol again and I'll ask partner to pick up coke on way home cos I can't face getting dressed and going to shop! That's how bad I feel CIA I would have massive cabin fever by now, I never stay indoors the entire day!

Salina thankyou hun, I feel a bit dramatic going for a headache and to be honest I've been in the early pregnancy unit so much with all my losses I'm loathe to go back there unless absolutely necessary. I did used to suffer with hormonal migraines a few years ago so maybe it's just migraine, I just need to ease it cos it's driving me bonkers now! Thanks again 😊

I had pre-eclampsia in my last pregnancy so am cautious about headaches this time around. Midwife told me to go to epu if I have a bad headache that doesn’t go away with paracetamol.

roundaround · 22/11/2019 15:07

It's probably not pre-eclampsia as its very rare for the condition to start before 20 weeks gestation.

That said, if you are worried definitely get it check out. Better it to get it checked and it be nothing than to not get it checked and it be something.

Could you call your midwife and see what she has to say?

What about that stick you rub on, Fore-head? Ask the pharmacist but I would guess that would be safe in pregnancy.

I feel ur pain I was having headaches like that from I found out maybe 3-4 a week with no break I found Vicks on my temples worked for me and lying in very dark room for it bit when I put it on. Now 19 weeks and down to one a week they are debilitating but will calm down at some point

emiliet123 · 22/11/2019 16:31

I suffer with migraines - both before and after getting preggo. Linked it to ovulation/period quite early on, so when I got preggo my hormones went completely out of whack and I was having one or two a week - it’s hugely debilitating.
Get to the doctors. There are tablets you can take during pregnancy which are okay (if absolutely necessary) xx

Thanks so much everyone, my lovely fiancé has gone to get coke and gas out an icy cold flannel on my head which I didn't think of but it's helping, I did panic about preeclampsia but I've told myself it's not that. I'm weaning off steroids so I'm pretty sure it's that, thanks again all xx
