Induction for big baby?

Hi,

I'm looking for experiences of women who were told they were likely having a big baby. I had a growth scan at 36+3 (ironically because my bumb was measuring small) yesterday and was told estimated fetal weight is 8lb7/3.8kg which seems to be 97th centile. Dr is suggesting induction at 39-40 weeks. If you were measuring big before the birth -

  1. at what gestation did you give birth?
  2. was it spontaneous or induced/CS?
  3. how much did your baby weigh when he/she was born?

I didn't have any growth scans with DC1 who came spontaneously at 40+6 weighing 8lb4, which is big but not huge, and am feeling a bit frazzled by it all right now. Due to see my midwife in 2 weeks to discuss so trying to pass the time by reading others' anecdotes Grin

TIA!

I was told I was going to have a big baby due to GD. I was induced at 39 weeks and the induction went on for 2 days, ended in an ECS due to baby’s heart rate dropping. At this point I hadn’t eaten or kept down any fluids for 2 days due to the hormones affecting me badly. Proceeded to throw up during c section and surgeon slipped and cut one of my arteries! Baby was born a healthy 8lbs6. My advice, push for a c section I would if I had to do it again rather than induction only to end in a section anyway (I believe the likelihood of this is quite high?). I am sure my experience is the exception and not the rule, but I didn’t enjoy the induction process at all. Good luck Flowers

DD spontaneous at 41 weeks 9lbs 11oz

DS section at 38 weeks 10lbs 13oz

I stopped there as I didn't want a 12 pounder Confused

@Hoolahlah66 that's awful!!! What a scary experience that must have been.

in the spirit of updating the thread for anyone with a similar question, DS was born today weighing a pretty average 8lb6, a far cry from the advice i was given that he would be around 11lb at birth!

good luck to anyone in a similar situation.

Congratulations! I hope all went well. My DS was also predicted to be 11lbs and was 8.6lbs too! (Just perfect in my opinion Smile . Enjoy every minute x
