Hi all, I've had s early scan today due to bring high risk of ectopic, they only saw a gestational sac no yolk sac. I'm suppose to be 5+1.

I have had no bleeding, and still positive tests. I had 3+ yesterday on the cb digital one 1 I've also got a lot of nausea. Its driving mad the worry. Anyone else been through this and had a good outcome?? The sonographer gave away very little saying they couldnt tell if it was a failed pregnancy or just early and that at 5+1 they would expect to see a yolk sac. Bug online everywhere says that you usually dont until 5+5 at the least.

Hi,

I went for a scan on Monday, and by period dates I would have been 6 +6.

Had scan and they dated me 5+5 and a heartbeat was detected. However 10-14 days prior to that nothing at all showed not even a sac. It might be that your earlier than thought x

I should be 7+1.. had bleeding since Sunday. Went for scan which they can’t see anything on. Hcg level is 170. Hosp are worried about ectopic. I feel like it’s a miscarriage as all signs of pregnancy have gone. Little worried

eatmyshorts89 · 20/11/2019 19:11

I'm not sure, maybe. I just keep thinking the worse I dont have any symptoms of a miscarrige yet and perhaps if i hadnt had that scan I'd be non the wiser as i have strong pregnancy symptoms and 3+ on the cb digital with conception indicator so i know my hcg levels must be over 2000. Suppose this is the down side to testing early x

I went for a scan @5.5 weeks and they could only see the sac. I was booked in for a follow up scan a week later but told to prepare for the worst.
The next scan showed a tiny little heartbeat and my 8.5 year old is now sitting next to me on the sofa.
I hope you have the same outcome.

5 weeks is really early to see anything at all. I think that because they saw a sac it's already a good sign.

Most places won't let you book a private scan until 7 weeks because you can see really little.

Try not to stress, it's early days.

@eatmyshorts89

Hi hun, I’m so sorry to hear of your anxiety!

Without being the bearer of bad news, I had some spotting at 5 weeks, went to the emergency gyne unit and had a scan. Exactly the same thing, saw the yolk sack but couldn’t see anything in it. They did 48 hour HCG tests and unfortunately they only went up 10% meaning that sadly it was not a viable pregnancy. I was scanned over a couple of weeks with repeat HCG tests and sadly diagnosed with an anembrionic pregnancy (or a blighted ovum).

Now the other posters are 100% correct it is very very early and may we’ll be a that it is just too early to see anything. If you want to know for sure 100% get your blood tests done. If they double in 48 hours you’re fine!

I have absolutely everything crossed for you!! Xxx

@eatmyshorts89 gestational sack sorry. NOT yolk sack x

eatmyshorts89 · 20/11/2019 20:44

Thankyou all for your replys, I've convinced myself of the worst. I had some bloods drew today, I've got some being done on Friday so will know Friday afternoon, I'm not bleeding or anything but I'm not holding out x

@mrsrose2018 so sorry to hear that, I have had one before many years ago, I was spotting from 4 weeks but the gestational sac just kept growing but nothing in it, I finally miscarried at 11 weeks. What were your hcg levels?

MrsRose2018 · 20/11/2019 21:01

@eatmyshorts89 I was exactly the same! My HCGs kept going up 10/12% each time and excruciatingly my gestational sack kept growing as well but there was nothing inside it! I had surgical management at 9 weeks! It was my first every pregnancy as well...

Erm... I think my HCGs were about 3500 at 5 weeks and then after 48 hours they went up to 4500ish

I truly truly hope it isn’t what you think it is xx

PretendNothing · 20/11/2019 21:36

5w+1 is very early, so please don't worry too much yet.

Just after I found out I was pregnant I had some bleeding and was scanned at 5w+4. There was a gestational sac and the sonographer was very postive, saying that was completely normal for that stage.

I then went for a follow-up scan at 6 weeks exactly and still only a gestational sac was seen - not even a yolk sac, let alone foetal pole or heartbeat. The private gynaecologist I was seeing was sensitive but very matter-of-fact, saying it was simply too early to tell if the pregnancy would continue. He said some pregnancies show that early, and some don't. I was booked in again for 8 weeks exactly and those were the longest and most distressing two weeks of my life, feeling lethargic and sick but not knowing if there was a developing baby in there. I googled and googled every evening, finding all sorts of conflicting information, but the truth is that unfortunately, all you can do is wait and see. Nothing I found online made me feel any better nor sped the time up.

If it helps you at all, it was good news for me at 8 weeks and, despite sporadic bleeding up to the 15th week of pregnancy, all went well and my four-month-old son is sleeping beside me now. Fingers crossed for a happy outcome for you.

Mummylanie3 · 20/11/2019 22:09

I had an early scan at 5+4 they could only see the sac told me could be failed pregnancy or just too early and to go back in 2 weeks I went back at 7+4 and saw a heartbeat I'm currently 17+1 with my little girl so please don't give up hope 5 weeks is very early xx

eatmyshorts89 · 20/11/2019 22:34

Thank you so much @pretendnothing I really needed to hear that, I'd of been non the wiser had I not had the scan as theres no other symptoms of miscarriage. Really hoping it's ok x

@mummielanie3 oh that must of been so upsetting. I know they have to be honest but sometimes I feel like there very negative just makes you worry unnecessarily. So glad yours was ok, gives me hope x
