Am I pregnant?! SOS!

I am supposed to take my first birth control pill pf the pack on a Sunday. I missed the first day of my birth control pill (combined pill), which I've heard is a no-no. The next day when I realized I missed, I took the pill I'd missed plus that day's pill (so two pills in one day).
Then, on week two of this month, I missed Wednesday and Thursday. When I realized it on Friday morning, I took all three pills. I felt fine.
Then, this past Friday (so the end of week through) I noticed brown discharge. It continued over the weekend, so I bought some panty liners because it was bothering me. One day I even noticed a little bit of red clotting mixed in with the brown, but not much.
Today my period was supposed to start, but it did not. I just have that brown discharge, but I have noticed a few drops of "real" blood (red).
Could I be pregnant? Is that even possible? Has this happened to anyone else and they ended up pregnant? I thought if you are pregnant you cannot bleed red. Help!

You can spot red blood if you are pregnant, usually around when your period is due, implantation can cause spotting. Get a pregnancy test & it you arent pregnant, make sure you take your pill properly or you will probably end up getting pregnant. If the pill isn't working for you, find another method that does work for you.

No idea if you're pregnant this time but you soon will be if that's the way you approach birth control. Suggest you look at other forms of contraception.

SexlessBoulderBelly · 20/11/2019 06:47

I spent years on the combined pill, absolutely rubbish at taking them everyday, forever missing 2/3 days at a time. I never got pregnant but it does lower the effectiveness of you don’t take it everyday.

If you miss a combined pill once you can double up the next day, I think the effectiveness is only lower by about 1%. But any more than that you’re advised to use alternative protection for 7 days. (This was why was written in my pamphlet years ago lol)

I was then put on a mini pill and you can’t miss any of those or it doesn’t work. Was still rubbish at taking it so went back to condoms and the pull out method until we decided to have a baby. Not saying pull out method is a method at all but we both knew it wouldn’t be an unwanted pregnancy we were just dallying around getting our ducks in a row before actively trying.

Take a test!

You are of childbearing age and haven’t used contraception correctly - how do you think it’s not possible....?

PotteringAlong · 20/11/2019 06:51

Yes. You can’t miss 3 days of the pill, take 3 on one day and be protected. If it worked like that you could take 356 on January 1st and be done!

The info says alternative protection if you miss 2 or more pills. If you cannot take it properly then you can definitely get pregnant and it might be worth looking for a different form of contraception that you don’t have to think about every day.

UnicornsandRainbows1 · 20/11/2019 06:54

Of course there's a chance if you're not using them as advised. Maybe look at other forms of you forget to take them 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also there's no need to double or triple up your missed pills, that's really not how it works

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 20/11/2019 07:23

Obviously birth control pills aren't for you since you've managed to forget such a significant number 🤷‍♀️ - yes you could be pregnant as they are only effective if you follow the instructions. Take a pregnancy test

Bol87 · 20/11/2019 09:32

No idea re-pregnancy but you can’t miss 3 and then just take 3 on another day, it doesn’t work like that at all 😬 if you miss one, there’s a chance you’ll get pregnant. You need to take it every single day at a similar time. Did the nurse/doc not explain this?

I was hopeless with taking pills, even with alarms on my phone I forgot! I got a coil in the end so I had nothing to remember! There is also the implant & injections - probably worth considering!

alal2019 · 20/11/2019 12:06

Yikes! I did not expect so many harsh responses, seeing as my question was not at all about whether or not this form of contraception is for me Hmm
I simply wanted to know if there is a strong chance I am pregnant. I know that I took the pills incorrectly - it’s my first time taking birth control and I’m recently married. I panicked when I realized I’d missed and took all 3 at once simply because I had no idea what to do.
So if anyone has a response to the question of whether or not this has happened to them - an answer would be so greatly appreciated!
Update: I slept with a light panty liner on last night in hopes I would get my period. I woke up with only a few tiny brown spots.

People get pregnant even when they take the pill completely correctly, so yes, there’s every chance you may be. Only one way to find out, get a test ASAP.

FenellaMaxwell · 20/11/2019 12:13

Obviously it’s possible. People get pregnant from not using contraception properly ALL THE TIME. Nobody can tell you anything more, you need to take a pregnancy test.

beminetonight · 20/11/2019 12:29

Go to your GP and they will know. They can test for pregnancy and arrange a more reliable form of contraception for you. You need to use condoms as additional protection if you don't take the pill correctly. The pill is pretty unreliable if you don't take it properly (every day at the same time and definitely not reliable if you vomit/have diarrhoea and can be less effective when using certain medications). If you have forgotten so many pills it would indicate it is not suitable method for you to prevent against pregnancy.

Boymummy3 · 20/11/2019 12:30

As others have said it is possible you could be pregnant and only a test will tell. The other side to it because you have messed them up then your body may just be messing up and not knowing if your suppose be having a period or not. My sister missed 2 pills one weekend and then took them as normal and the outcome of that is my now 5 year old niece. I'd wait at least a couple more days then get a first response test x

Loladoodle · 20/11/2019 12:53

Alal

No harsh response here as I am in a similar situation. I’m on my 7 day break from the pill (day 4 of the break) and no sign of period as yet. Latest it’s ever arrived is day 3 of the break so I am getting anxious.

I am aware that not taking the pill properly can result in pregnancy however having taken a long time to conceive previously having tried absolutely everything possible I just am not expecting that a couple of missed pills would result in pregnancy. Naive I guess in way - definitely not hoping to be pregnant right now but I guess life has its own ideas. Pregnancy test arriving tomorrow...

You should take a test to put your mind at ease. Not knowing for me is always the worst.

Loladoodle · 20/11/2019 15:02

My period is also late.... STRESS!!!

KellyHall · 20/11/2019 15:05

The pills have a leaflet in them with detailed information. It's a good idea to read this leaflet in full when you take any medication. NHS 111 can also give advice.

Pinkblueberry · 20/11/2019 15:15

I think it’s more likely due to taking the pill irregularly but take a test to be sure. I always get spotting and sometimes a full blown period when I miss just one pill it’s such a pain, but for me that’s more incentive for me to remember it than anything else and why I see it as a good contraceptive - some people are happy having sex when they’re bleeding but it’s not my thing. So I’m either having sex on the pill or not having sex Grin when people say they got pregnant after missing a few pills I presume they’re having period/ brown discharge sex then because for me that just wouldn’t work - because if it’s not working you should get a withdrawal bleed.

Wingingthis · 20/11/2019 15:17

I missed one pill and now have a 2yo. Get a pregnancy test ASAP!

Loladoodle · 20/11/2019 15:47

Wingingthis 😱 which pill was it you missed? Beginning of pack?
