I am due to give birth shortly, already have a nearly 6 year old dd. I want to get her something from the baby for when they meet, I don't know if a nice teddy is going to be right since she is a bit older, any ideas?

We've got dd (5) an elsa doll for when she meets little sister

What does she like doing? Something she can entertain herself with may be a good idea along with perhaps a big sister tshirt?

I wanted to get her something that was a bit special, something more that she would keep rather than a toy as such

Maybe she is a it young for something that's not a toy

I think a teddy would be perfect with big sister on it. X

Little silver locket with 'sister' engraved?

DD2 gave DD1 (aged 2) a Peppa playset. We figured it was the quickest way to her heart, but she was so pleased with her little sister we needn't have bothered.

I have a five year age gap between my DC. We didn’t do a gift from DC2 to DC1. I can see how it’s useful when the older child is a toddler prone to jealousy but a child aged 5+ is old enough not only to be reassured but also genuinely to help with the baby. I really don’t think it’s necessary, tbh.

We always gifted something that will keep them occupied for their free time as new baby was going to take so much of our time and attention.

One think we did, we told my son each time I gave birth( one baby didn't make it) that we will give him a gift as from baby because he's becoming a big brother.

This time he wants a hamster, and he's old enough to care for one, but I guess you know better your child and what her interests are.
