When do you start baby shopping?

I'm only 17+2 so don't want to start anytime soon.

I started around 24-25 weeks and only got items here and there that were on offer.

mohasfluffytoes · 19/11/2019 15:38

I'm 27 weeks, started with bits and bobs (mainly clothes) after my 20 week scan but only started properly buying things last week. I've been taking advantage of all the sales!!!

Brianna83 · 19/11/2019 15:39

I got the pram, travel system and cot at 22 weeks because I got a good deal at a baby show. I haven't bought anything else yet (am now 30 weeks). Really need to get a move on...

However I have the big ticket items and am planning to BF so I'm only planning on getting a big Boots shop and a handful of simple baby grows or the like so an m and s and a Boots shop should do me. I hope.

Why don't you want to start now out of interest?

I think you can start whenever you choose! FWIW we started getting clothes etc. from friends after 12 weeks and then we've picked bits up like a new chest of drawers, a changing table etc. intermittently ever since. Just got the pram last week at 27 weeks. I wouldn't want to leave it all to the last minute and have preferred spreading the cost out.

fulanigirl · 19/11/2019 16:14

I started shopping at 8 weeks. By then I've had 3 scans due to recurrent miscarriages. I saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks and 8 weeks so I felt comfortable enough to buy things.

Mintypea5 · 19/11/2019 16:18

Not until about 30+ weeks with DS2. Despite seeing heartbeats at early scans I still had 3 loses at 11,12 and 14 weeks so never felt confident until near the end.

DD again not really until 30+ weeks. Mainly because we had all the stuff left from
DS2 the year before

girlanonymous · 19/11/2019 16:26

@purplefig I've just been really paranoid this pregnancy and just don't want anything to happen.

I've had one miscarriage and then had DS. But for some reason with this pregnancy I've been very paranoid.

Bought our pram at 20 weeks as it was on a good deal. Everything else has been along the way since then. I did buy things earlier than I had intended because I have PGP and knew that the further along I got the harder it would become to get about.

KHall84 · 19/11/2019 16:55

I started when I was 9 weeks but just cause baby show was on so I got my pram, car seat, next to me crib, cot and changer and also have a little bit if lothjng you can start when u feel ready xx

purplefig · 19/11/2019 16:59

@girlanonymous sorry to hear about your MC Thanks

If delaying shopping helps you effectively manage your anxiety then go for it. I totally understand it can be a stressful time.

But just a friendly reminder that whether you that whether you buy nursery bits now or at 37 weeks, it won't impact the outcome of this pregnancy.

Would it be worth talking through your worries with your midwife?

theydontknowweknow · 19/11/2019 17:15

We started at around 15 weeks with things like the pram and furniture, it was handy spreading the costs and we could choose to get the furniture delivered closer to the time. After a scare at 31 weeks and having to be tested for preterm labour, I'm glad we got sorted quite early.
