1/5 engaged

Hi, I am currently 38+2 with first baby and visited the midwife yesterday who says that he is 1/5 engaged. I am definitely feeling it as pressure, soreness when walking (like a duck!) and shooting pains up vagina at times.
How soon after being told you are 1/5 engaged did people go into labour?
I’ve got everything ready e.g hospital bag etc but feeling a little more nervous now!
Thanks

Bumping this for your OP (no pun intended!). Good luck

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but babies can become unengaged too so I honestly wouldn't read much into it that baby is 1/5 engaged.. Not saying it will happen but it can. You could go into labour in the next week or in 3 weeks no telling really and everyone is different xx

I was 1/5 engaged for about 3 weeks, sorry lovely, could be bloody ages yet.

I remember 'being engaged' a couple or three weeks before giving birth, at least I think so. I definitely changed shape, not just me noticed, bump was lower in readiness I suppose. Didn't have any pains or other symptoms and gave birth spontaneously five days earlier than EDD.

Very good luck PurpleBurple! I hope you feel a bit more comfortable soon. It's an exciting time.
Bit premature (not the baby) but Flowers for you.

I’m 40 weeks and was told yesterday’s that i am also 1/5 engaged, I don’t think it means very much at all.

MadameJosephine · 19/11/2019 20:23

Did she say 1/5 engaged or did she mean 1/5 palpable? 1/5 engaged is still quite a high head with a little way to go before being fully engaged whereas 1/5 palpable is very deeply engaged

Purpleburple123 · 20/11/2019 14:14

Thank you for all your replies Smile
I'm sure the midwife said he was 1/5 engaged but on my notes it says 1/5 palp. Whether they use it interchangeably?

No, they shouldn’t as it’s two different things. 1/5 palpable is very well engaged so hopefully baby won’t keep you waiting too much longer. Best of luck for a safe and speedy delivery
