Really regret moving away from King’s!

I was in the King’s College Hospital catchment area until the start of this year and now live in Lewisham/Greenwich. I’ve recently found out that I’m pregnant and am gutted that my new postcode doesn’t fall under King’s catchment area! I know that King’s has a fantastic reputation and would really like to have given birth there. My closest hospital is now Lewisham, which to be fair I don’t know a lot about - but it seems a lot smaller. Has anyone had any experience of Lewisham for midwifes and the actual birth and how did you find it? I’m kicking myself now that we moved away...

Have they just introduced the catchments? Women have always been able to choose their hospital.

I thought Women could choose their maternity hospital? I was considering Kings as closer to work, but then got too sick to travel so used my local hospital instead.

The website for King's Maternity services say it will consider referrals from women outside the catchment postcodes. Worth a punt anyway.

I had a choice of about 4 hospitals from memory - I would say to consider your closest/ easiest to get to hospital - easier for appointments and when you go into labour, and if you or the baby end up staying in for any length of time it can make a bit difference to be a bit closer.

I had my first at KCH and my second at Lewisham Hospital; both births complicated in different ways. I actually had a better experience at Lewisham; the staff were good at both but Lewisham felt more personal and was friendlier.

That's good to hear! Does anyone else have any experiences of Lewisham?
