Gender scans

Hi all,

I’m currently 14+2 and have booked a gender scan for 16+4 weeks. I was reading somewhere yesterday that they can’t tell the gender until the 20w mark so no point in booking gender scans beforehand.

A friend also said to me she would only have booked a gender scan had they not been able to tell the gender at 20w routine hospital scan. So in short I’ve over thought it all and now convinced I’ve booked the gender scan for nothing.

Anyone else booked a gender scan before the 20w scan and is able to tell me it hasn’t been a waste booking the scan as early as I have.

Mine were 16w and 17w3 (separate kids) and you could see just fine that they’re boys. The place I went to also offers a rescan if they can’t tell so there’s always a second try.

It’s possibly just clearer by 20weeks as the babies bigger.

I had mine at 16+3 and was told it was a girl had my 20 week anomaly scan this week and they have said it was correct.

My 16+1 scan told me very clearly it was a boy! This was then confirmed at NHS 20 week abnormality scan Grin

I had mine at 15 both times and there were no issues at all in finding out the sex

Ah brilliant. Thank you both so much. Feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders reading your replies. Had my heart set on going to the scan. So happy it’s not a waste of time xx

I had mine at 17 weeks and they were very very very sure. Confirmed by three other scans since. I don't think it's a waste of time at all. It's just that some babies lie in an awkward position at every scan and they can never really be sure. Whereas others are just in the right position and they can tell.

Thank you xx so glad it can still go ahead. We get a 4d sneak peek too and I just can’t wait to meet him/her. Also looking forward to going for a scan which isn’t ‘clinical’ and tense feeling from being consultant led care. I never feel relaxed at my scans from being high risk, I just feel anxious all the time so it’ll be lovely to go privately and be able to relax and make the most of seeing our baby in a non clinical environment xxx

Different places scan from different weeks so just double check that which i persume you did before you booked it lol but this time around i had a gender scan at 14 weeks... i thought it may of been too early but nope proud as punch there was my boy waving his bits around lol. This was also confirmed at my 20wk scan and ive jad growth scans since and hes still proud as punch pretty much windmilling it around at every scan lol.
Although we found out at 14 weeks i did only buy one bit of boys clothing (was a little set) apart from that i did wait till 20wk before i started to buy more for him just incase haha x

Aww this is making me so excited lol xx I looked to see if I could get in earlier than 16weeks but seems all the clinics nearby are 16weeks 😭
