Ovary-area pain

I made another thread briefing mentioning this, but it's got worse, and I just want some thoughts. I believe I'm 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant (3 at home tests and the doctors urine one said it too). For the past 3 days now I've had this aching, dull pain over my right ovary area, it rarely leaves. I can't tell if it's just pregnancy pains (expanding uterus maybe?), a cyst or ectopic pregnancy perhaps. Obviously my wish is for the first lol.

But everything on the internet is so confusing! Researching cysts tells me thats the kind of pain you get, but some sources also say cysts can cause positive pregnancy tests?? what! Is this true? I would hate if it turned out this was all just a cyst. But anyways, not every site said that, it's was hard to find information, left me a little dumbfounded lol. Some sites also say cysts are a part of pregnancy, but again, not all of them. All this information is confusing the hell outta me!

And then as for ectopic, well... I suppose I just have to hope. Did any of you ladies have this pain, and all was well? I can't find a lot on the internet suggesting it's common to have a dull ache like this in that area during early pregnancy. It's really one of the only symptoms I've had so far.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, I don't think my anxiety has taken kindly to the whole baby idea haha

Fingers crossed for you. I've had one very healthy pregnancy 7 years ago and early pregnancy got sharp lower abdo pains, ligament growing pains I assume as all was fine. Still get pains on and off now had a scan to rule cyst out and nothing to bw seen there?!
Call your gp and ask for a scan referral? It's the only way you'd know for sure.
May be able to get a private one sooner to put your mind at rest.

Just went to arrange an appointment but I wont be able to see someone for another week. I'm very angry, upset and frustrated, and these pains are making me so anxious. I've noticed it's worse when I'm sitting or walking, nothing but this dull ache for days straight now over my right ovary. I wish i could just see someone now

Pregnancy can cause cysts too, some hospitals will try to scan for them by default at your 12wk scan and some won't. You can obviously get cysts without being pregnant too, and most pregnant people don't get them.

Also if that's where the egg came from then it could just be swollen and sore from hormones not letting it go down.

I want to suggest an ectopic would be more painful than you're describing, but there will be exceptions and we all have different pain thresholds.

Tinkerbell19 · 14/11/2019 12:31

I have the same pain you are describing. I also has some spotting so I phoned the early pregnancy assessment and they told me to go in for a scan. They said everything looked fine and put the pain down to scar tissue. You could have an ectopic pregnancy, I've had one before and I wasn't in any pain at all though I did have light bleeding. Can you phone your early pregnancy assessment and see if they will scan you?

toomuchteaandcake · 14/11/2019 12:57

I had the pains and went to the doctor but she just told me unless they are severe and accompanied by bleeding there's nothing really to do so early and to just wait it out. I'm now 7 weeks and have had them on and off, have an early scan booked for Monday

Razpoot · 14/11/2019 16:32

I just got a call back saying they can do a scan tomorrow! I'm very relieved, thought I was losing faith in humanity there haha. Hopefully all is well, fingers crossed, I will post any results tomorrow

So glad you've got an appointment, best of luck, I hope it helps put your mind at rest Flowers

Nic165 · 14/11/2019 21:26

Best of luck. When I was around 5 weeks I had the same pain you describe but on the left. Turns out a cyst had burst as the scan showed fluid. But nothing to worry about as the fluid just gets absorbed over time and doesn't affect baby

ZoJo1111 · 14/11/2019 23:19

I had same thing, ovary pain at 5 weeks ... remember being laid up on the sofa with it, it felt like ovulation pain. However I am now successfully 35 weeks along ... dr at the time told me it was probably just a bit of bruising pain from the implantation (early viability scan showed that where I had the pain was the side i had ovulated from and egg was embedded over there). So ... I obviously can’t say for sure this is what you have, but definitely I went through similar pain and all was absolutely fine so everything crossed that will be same case for you x

I had a sort of dull ache/pain in my lower abdomen at around five weeks. It didn't last that long in hindsight, but at the time it worried me. I was up all night wondering if I should call the maternity triage helpline.

Turns out I have a bunch of fibroids (non-cancerous growths) that can cause pain. I hope you're alright - good luck with the scan !

Razpoot · 15/11/2019 15:29

Hello everyone! Thank you for the responses. I had the scan a few hours ago - thankfully, the baby is in the uterus. Whew Smile

They did say they spotted a cyst on my ovary, but they didn't think it was big enough to cause pain. So I'm not too sure what the cause could be. I'm still experiencing the pain now.
