Growth concerns at 36weeks

Today I am 36 weeks. I have had a good pregnancy and no issues up until now.
I had a growth scan this morning and my baby is measuring only 5.1lbs. He has dropped down below the bottom line of his growth chart. At 33 weeks he was 4.6lbs.
Because of this my consultant has booked me in for an induction at 39weeks. Along with 2 CTG’s a week to monitor movements, a blood flow scan next week and finally another growth scan in 2 weeks time.
This is the first time there has been any concerns. Baby is still moving away happily, the heartbeat and blood flow was all normal in today’s scan.
I know I shouldn’t stress but I’m so worried that he isn’t growing well in there. I’ve done everything by the book as we were so luckily to fall pregnant at all after years of trying (due to PCOS.)
Does anyone have any similar stories or advice?
Super worried mumma2be 😓

My dd's growth dropped right down from 90th centile on scan and fundal hieght to plateau from about 37 weeks. They said she was 7 ish lbs at that point. But she couldn't have been. She was born at 40+5 (about four weeks later) weighing 6 lb 9.

What it means is that the scans have a significant margin of error. It's worrying yes, but the scans are often distorted by position and how far down the head is into the pelvis. It's more art than science.

The good news is that you're being well monitored.

Thank you. I wasn’t aware the scans can vary so much. This has given me a little more of an insight. I’m eager to for my next growth scan. I’m officially on maternity leave now so I plan to try and de-stress as much as possible. I’m very lucky the medical staff are prompt and switched on.

My little boy was measuring 4lb 5oz at 35 weeks. We had an induction booked in but he came naturally the day before at 37+5 weighing 6lb 4oz and was perfectly healthy 😊

Just to add to the chorus, my baby was measuring small 40 weeks+, and they decided to induce there and then, but she came naturally while I was waiting to be induced, and was 1lb heavier than what was estimated the day before! So yes, scans aren't always accurate

I had mine at 36 weeks they were 5lb odds which is an ok.weight the drs are monitoring you both you didn't do anything wrong some time s things don't go to plan which will unsettle.

I had my youngest at 35 weeks. The scans can be out as others have said and I see you are now on ML so hopefully you can rest.

My niece was 3 weeks early and SIL was induced because she was measuring small. DNiece arrived totally healthy, 6lb5oz (so small but not super tiny!) and they went home from hospital the next day Smile

DN is now a chunky 9 month old just sussing out how to crawl and eating everything she can get her mitts on Grin

Best of luck SmileThanks

My daughter was born at 37 weeks and 5lb 3oz I was induced due to IUGR and had been scanned every fortnight at least from 25 weeks. She's perfect just a tiny dot.

newbabyyy2019 · 12/11/2019 21:15

I was monitored from 20 weeks, I had two scans a week and then growth scans every 2 weeks because my baby wasn't growing enough and was very small..They said she was IUGR and had short long bones.. I was told throughout that If she stops growing then I would be induced. She didn't grow at all for 6 weeks between 32 and 38 weeks so I was induced at 38 weeks.. at my last scan my baby girl was below the 1st centile and I was told she was measuring only 4lb 7oz at 38 weeks.. She was born weighing 5lb 6oz so they were basically a whole 1lb off!! they can be so wrong and my little girl is absolutely perfect and looks completely in proportion!! Soo I wouldn't worry to be honest!

What a relief all these messages are girls! My goodness I’ve been worried all day. Can’t thank you all enough. I will hopefully have a lovely update for you all in 3 weeks time with news of a plump baby boy 🤗
