No heartbeat 8 weeks

Hi all,
Absolutely devastated today, went for my second early scan and was told there was no heartbeat.

Baby measured 8 weeks 3 days which matches my dates of my LMP. The scan was abdominal, not internal

I had previously had a scan at 6 weeks (internal) and everything was fine with a heartbeat and everything

I’m absolutely devastated, have opted to let everything happen naturally but was wondering if there are any miracle stories of similar situations where everything has been fine

I know it’s a tiny chance but I just keep thinking if they had tried an internal scan could a heartbeat have been detected or is an abdominal scan at 8 weeks still pretty accurate?

I’m coming to terms with the loss but incase I end up needing to ‘pass’ the baby with medical intervention, would it be worth getting a second opinion beforehand or is it pretty certain?

Hi i have no advice regarding letting things happen naturally/with medical intervention as when i had a mmc it happened on its own very quickly... what i did want to say is at 8 weeks an abdominal scan will pick up baby/heartbeat so im afraid an internal scan wouldnt make a difference. If you wanted a second opinion/scan maybe you could ask them to do an internal scan to put your mind at ease but not sure if they would? Sorry you are going through this its a difficult time x

I know I’m just clasping at straws but I agree it would just put my mind at ease more than anything just to have a second opinion before having any kind of intervention :)

I had an 8 week abdominal scan & baby and heartbeat were very clearly visible. I’m so so sorry did your loss sending lots of love

Same happened to me. I went in first time due to bleeding, baby had heartbeat. Went back two weeks later and no heartbeat. Waited a week and returned for a medical intervention, they said they wouldn’t do any procedure without a final scan, and I did ask for one just to be sure.

She put a dye which if the baby was alive would’ve shown movement on the screen (easier for her to see) but there was nothing.

This is what happened with my first pregnancy. Heartbeat at 6 and a bit weeks just lost it when they did a scan two weeks later. It's so gutting.
I chose to have the tablets rather than wait. They did an internal scan on me to double check however they can usually pick up a heartbeat externally at that time. With my second pregnancy they picked up a heartbeat externally at 5 and a bit weeks. It might be worth asking for an internal scan to double check to be absolutely sure, although its unlikely they've missed the heartbeat. So sorry xx
