I did with newborn. Haven't for other sizes.

My mum told me not to bother. So I'll see how that goes. I can't be bothered. But I know lots of mums who would never do it and would always wash.

FurchesterCatastrophy · 12/11/2019 09:14

I would wash everything I knew they were going to wear - essentials like vests and baby grows. I found there were lots of pretty outfits that they never ended up wearing and I gave a lot to charity and I felt the charity shops would probably get more money from them if they still had tags in.

Never washed any new clothes, for baby, child or adults!

7Worfs · 12/11/2019 09:18

Always wash anything new, baby or adult.
Fabrics get treated with chemicals, I’d rather be on the safe side.

firstimemamma · 12/11/2019 09:19

I washed everything before and can also understand people who don't. It's the stories of washing and ironing everything 4 times over that I've never really understood!

Amanduh · 12/11/2019 09:19

Nope

sewinginscotland · 12/11/2019 09:22

I still wash everything from new and he's 13m. Just do what feels right to you.

whatsinthebagwhatcoulditbe · 12/11/2019 09:26

No, I've never bothered.

20viona · 12/11/2019 09:28

No I didn't wash anything.

EpcotForever · 12/11/2019 09:29

I washed everything with both pregnancies, even ironed all the vests and muslins Blush.
Still wash everything from new for them now at 4 & 1. Buy a lot online so worry that someone else has worn/tried it on before or if it's from a shop could have been on the floor.

mistermagpie · 12/11/2019 09:56

I never have, I've got enough laundry as it is!

Boymummy3 · 12/11/2019 09:58

Yes i will be washing everything ive bought for the baby as i always think the clothes have sat in dusty boxes/warehouses and have allsorts on them lol i wash all chair covers/playmats etc just want them to be nice and fresh for baby... funnily enough though i dont wash the older kids/adults
new clothes before they get worn not sure why lol. X

owlofathena · 12/11/2019 10:44

I washed and ironed (I never iron so blamed it baby brain) everything for dd before she was born. Day after she was born we had to ask my mum to buy some tiny baby sleepsuits from tesco to bring to hospital as dd was so small. I put these straight on her from the packet. So I wouldn't say it was necessary to wash everything new really. This time round I've washed everything but mainly because it's all preowned so been stored for a couple of years

catlady3 · 12/11/2019 10:48

I'm washing everything, and more than once. Especially important if it's not organic, and fabrics are dyed with really harsh chemicals. Not something I want on my baby's skin. I wash my own clothes before wearing as well, only need to smell them to know whatever's on them is no good.

Dandelion1993 · 12/11/2019 10:48

I did with my foray baby then realised I was being ridiculous. You never wash an adults brand new clothes.

With my second I didn't bother at all. Waste of time.

DappledThings · 12/11/2019 13:41

Yes with first, not with second

Caspianberg · 12/11/2019 13:46

Yes I will. I wash all adults clothing and bedding new because of the chemicals used in the production process.

GrumpyHoonMain · 12/11/2019 14:17

Yes because ‘new clothes’ have often been sitting in filthy warehouses for months if not years and then filthy shops where they never dust clothes. Also you never know if something has been worn / tried on then returned.

GrumpyHoonMain · 12/11/2019 14:18

In many ways second hand clothes that were washed a year previously and then stored in a bag are cleaner than new clothes

Autumn2019 · 12/11/2019 14:35

Yes-i washed all of DD's new baby clothes. I still wash all her new clothes before she wears them. I wash my brand new clothes as well. I just think brand new clothes could have been in dusty warehouses etc, and handled by so many people before being packaged. Funnily enough i don't dry clean my brand new 'dry clean only' clothes before wearing coz its too expensive !

ameliathomas84 · 12/11/2019 14:48

Only have washed bibs and muslins as they won't absorb if brand new same with things like baby towels anything expected to soak up x
