Hi,
I have been having visual disturbances for a few days now and I have read that it can be one of the symptoms of pre eclampsia.
I'm a bit worried as I have just Googled (Bad idea, I know) the sysmptoms of pre eclampsia!!!!!
I seem to say yes to a lot of the sysmptoms listed, i.e
1-visual disturbances.
2-Abdomen pain, below the ribs especially on the right hand side.
3-Nausea.
4-Extremely bad headaches, including one last week that lasted 2 days!!

I dont know what my BP is at the mo, but it was ok at 120/60 at my last MW appointment 3 weeks ago.

Im 27+6 days BTW.
What should I do, I have a MW appointment tomorrow morning, should I wait until then to speak to her??

Might be worth phoning someone today and seeing what their view is. Hope you are ok.

harleyd · 19/08/2007 09:24

no dont wait. this can come on really suddenly, i have had it 4 times. ring your midwife or go to your hospital to get checked out. i didnt ever have any symptoms, just the high bp & protien

chacha3 · 19/08/2007 09:25

hi if you are worried phone your midwife or nhs direct better to be safe than sorry! Pre eclapmsia is a very dangerous condition but the sooner you notice the better!

chacha3 · 19/08/2007 09:27

i had it when i was 36 wks high blood pressure and protein in my water but no other symptoms as well! so ring now hun! let us know

artichokes · 19/08/2007 09:30

Call the Day Assessment Unit at your maternity unit ASAP (number should be on your notes). Don't bother with NHS Direct. The DAU will probably ask you to come in for a BP and urine check. You need both checked ASAP.

Oooh so many replies, thanks guys am gonna ring now.
I will let you know what happens.

was just going to do my own thread on this! i've got bad headache(for 2 days) my feet and hands are swollen, can't hardly use my hands! i've just rung and they've told me to go in to get checked in an hour, so best you ring!

harleyd · 19/08/2007 11:15

how far on are you j20baby? hope all is well

GoodGollyMissMolly · 19/08/2007 14:43

Hiya ladies,
I've just got back from the maternity home, where they have checked me over and taken my BP and it is actually lower now than it was at my last MW appointment.

They have also checked for protien in my urine, but found none.

Listened to babys heart beat and all is well.

They have said I dont have pre eclampsia, but to keep an eye (Ironic) on the visual disturbances and any other symptoms I may have. If anything worries me or comes on again to give them a call.

Thank You all so much for such fast responses, I really appreciate it

J20Baby, I'm glad youre going in to see them, they certainly took it very serious with me. I hope you are going to be ok, keep us updated on how you are.

Wow, this could have been me earlier this week!! I was having visual disturbances and serious swelling last week and when I got headahaches to go with it, I went up to the DAU... Pretty much the same response and told to take my codeine more regularly (have got SPD) and rest more because I was truly exhausted. Apparently if the codeine relieves the headache then its not an indication of pre-eclampsia.

I'm still swollen so much it hurts but am reassured that its nothing serious...

Glad it all turned out well for you GGMM! How did it go for you j20baby?

thanks for asking all, just got back, got there at 12, sat for 2 hours, had bp and urine done, which was fine, so i thought, great can go home now, but no, they left me for another half an hour then monitored the baby till 3.15pm, then i had to wait for the doc, by 5pm i was crying with frustrstion because i knew they where just going to send me home! kept trying to discharge myself, but they kept telling me it wouldn't be much longer, doc finally came at 6.30 and told me to go home and rest, am so and weepy and tired, they also left me without food or a drink, until my friend went and asked for something for me, am never never going there again until i'm in labour.

but at least i haven't got P-E, just a worse headache from the bright lights!

missmollie-glad your ok

lisad123 · 19/08/2007 20:28

I had it in my last pregnancy and was forced to go in everytime I had a bad head, and did have the pain under my ribs. I ended up staying in for 6 weeks
It can be very dangerous and is hard to control, so always be safe and call. I made a friend in hospital, who i still see 4 years later who had PE. It got so bad so quickly she nearly died, and that was after being in for 9 weeks

Glad your both ok. I brought a BP monitor from lloyds for £10 this time round to save me having to go and check with every bad head, its so handy.

Hugs

chacha3 · 20/08/2007 08:01

glad all you girls are ok and havent got pre eclampseia. take care of yourselves. x

GoodGollyMissMolly · 20/08/2007 12:39

J20Baby,
Glad your ok, but how awful that you were kept waiting for so long, I am that they didn't offer you anything to eat or drink.
Glad your ok though and take care.

Good idea Lisad123, think I will get myself a BP monitor, I didn't realise that they were that cheap.

They are normally £30 but are on offer right now.
