I am currently eagerly awaiting the postman each day for the letter for my 12 week scan, which is due around the beginning of December. Today I looked at my online maternity notes and I saw an upcoming appointment for 9th December (I’ll be 12+6 on that date) under the description of OBS GENERIV. Could this be my scan date or is there another set of obs that my midwife didn’t mention? I’m guessing the letter is on its way but just getting impatient for the first glimpse!

It's probably your scan. Unlikely to be another appointment you don't know about. Exciting!

Thank you for your quick response! It’s going to be a long 4 weeks now Grin!

It may be your hospital booking appointment with they hospital midwife if you have not yet had this, you have this appointment along with you're scan x

Depends, have you had your booking in appointment yet an have you had your first set of blood tests for the combined test?

Curtainly · 12/11/2019 16:21

Online maternity notes sound fancy! Have you had your booking in appointment yet? Guessing so, but other than wait for the letter you could phone the unit to clarify.

I have online maternity notes.
I'm pretty sure that's your first scan, as I guess you've seen the midwife already as she set your notes up.

Forgot to say that you'll receive the letter with the appointment soon, as you already can see it in the app.

I would guess that the abbreviation OBS means obstetric. Are you expecting to see an obstetric consultant about any issues identified at your booking appointment?

Chiltepina · 13/11/2019 07:42

Thanks for all your replies. Yes, I saw the midwife for the booking appointment and have had my first set of bloods taken. Hope it’s not something wrong with the blood results...

Today I have seen another mysterious appointment appear! This time it specifically says no scan.

I never thought about obstetrics. I assumed observations! I have a sliding hiatus hernia so the midwife did say that I would need to see a consultant at some point. The problem is that I can’t call the clinic as I’m not sure where the appointments are as they haven’t actually put the address! It could be either my local or the hospital.

I would phone the midwife unit or wherever you had your booking app, they should be familiar with the wording, or able to advise where is best to ask Smile. I was also apprehensive about phoning for some reason, but it's so much better than worrying, often needlessly!

I think you will have to wait for the letters, but I think the first will be your 12 week scan and the second will be the consultant appointment.

Phone your midwife and ask only way you will know x
