On my left side at my back my ribs are agony. I can barely even lie down and it is just constantly throbbing at that area. It’s like a dull ache. I’m 28+3 and just wondered if anyone else has this or has went through it and can tell me why/what is causing it?

I had this from early on in my first pregnancy - it’s called rib flare. It was so painful, I really struggled with it. I had no back ache, hip pain etc, just my blooming ribs! I struggled the most at work sat on my desk chair, I was up & down like a yo yo to alienate some of the pain.

Unfortunately, for me, I never really found a solution. Often took paracetamol at work & did lots of stretches at home. I found propping myself with cushions on the sofa was OK. It eased a little once baby engaged as she was lower down.. it was a genuine relief when she was born. The pain just went away!

So far this second pregnancy, it hasn’t reoccurred! I instead have terrible backache Hmm

If it continues to get worse, def speak to your doctor just to br sure baby hasn’t cracked a rib but I think you’d know about it! They can also bruise ribs with kicking, so a possibility too!

I’m 30+5 and having dreadful rib pain! Both sides, generally in the back and sides. Paracetamol and heat don’t touch it - considering TENS. Ouchy 😣

Oh yes! I remember it well. It is very common.

I'd get checked out just to be safe as that could be possible symptoms an UTI or even symptoms of pre eclampsia x

Yeah dreaded rib flare! I had it with both of mine from fairly early on. I found sitting on a Swiss ball instead of my desk chair helped at work and using cushions (even had one in the car) to help me sit more comfortably. It's a nightmare; hope you find some relief soon!

When you next have your midwife app i would just mention it incase you have uti which can cause kidney infection which in turn can cause pain near ribs.. i got this with my 2nd it was painfull but aswell it could just be rib flare. I also have this in my right sometimes if ive sat funny i struggle to stand up because it hurts my ribs same with sleeping etc they constantly hurt. Yet another joy of pregnancy x
