Bleeding AND cramping - any chance I'm not miscarrying?

I am 7 weeks pregnant. Starting spotting early this week and by yesterday it had turned to heavy bleeding and quite painful cramping. I'm booked in for a scan Tuesday and have been told to just wait and see what happens but of course, given the symptoms, I am finding it hard to believe I am still pregnant.

Has anyone ever had heavy bleeding and cramping, and gone on to have a successful pregnancy?

I’m so sorry.

Anecdotally I’ve known people to have light bleeding and still be okay, but heavy bleeding that lasts a while plus cramping doesn't sound good.

Have you heard of Chorionic hematoma? That can be a cause of bleeding that doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the pregnancy.

When I had bleeding on a Friday and wasn’t offered an NHS scan until the following week I went for a private scan instead over the weekend as I couldn’t imagine being able to settle over several days not knowing what was happening. I know it won’t change the outcome, but for your mental well-being is that an option?

In your shoes I really would try and plan for the worst and start getting my head around it and then if it’s not the end it’ll be an amazing relief. But that’s just me, I’d find it harder to hold onto hope. Fingers crossed for you.

@eagerlywaiting hey OP, sorry I don't have better news but I had the same and for me it was indeed a miscarriage. Usually light bleeding without pain can be normal but heavy bleeding with cramps isn't a good sign. I'll cross everything for you that it'll all be fine though 🤞 Flowers

Thank you for your kind words. The wait is more painful than anything. I just want to know... My doctor recommended not going for a private scan as it might be too early to show and might make me feel worse.

I think I still feel pregnant and this is making me wonder. Though having previously miscarried I'm aware that it's not looking good...

Unfortunately I dont have a positive story before my 2nd at 6half weeks I had the same and it ended in a mmc.. they do say bleeding with Pains is something that's not good in early pregnancy BUT there could be other reasons why your bleeding.. hard as it is try not worry yourself too much. X

Hi Op,

Are you having any clots through the bleeding ?

I bleed from 7.5 weeks till 12 weeks, originally it started with bleeding every time I coughed/sneezed/ was sick basically anything that put any strain into my belly but by the 12 weeks every time I went to the toilet and wiped there would be blood also. However I never had any clots and they told me this is what I needed to look out for, the bleeding was coming from the top of my womb and was told it would heal as and when it wants to and it might of continued through the entire pregnancy - thankfully it did stop. Sending positive thoughts to you x

I had heavy bleeding and cramps at six and a half weeks. The bleeding continued for three weeks. It was a sub-chorionic haematoma. Somehow the baby clung on. There was an issue with the placenta though, and she was small and prem, but she made it.

I wouldn't bank on a happy ending but bleeding doesn't always mean it's all over. I had miscarried before and was not optimistic.

Hiya - I had heavy bleeding with clots and quite painful cramping at about 7 weeks, and that baby is now three years old (and I’m not sure I’ve forgiven him, tbh.
The not knowing is dreadful, be kind to yourself.

I had brown spotting with no blood on Wednesday and Thursday. It’s all stopped now... I don’t know what to make of it. I’m 7 weeks by lmp but EPAU think 5 week!

I have started with spotting this morning (brown and slightly light orange) and mild cramping. My boobs have pretty much stopped been sore as well and they were really hurting 2 days ago.

I miscarried last month and I'm worried it's happening again too.

I can't go through it again.

I'm 6 weeks and 2 days x
