Dating Scan at 8 weeks - is this normal?

Had my first midwife appointment earlier this week, I'm 7 weeks at the moment. I was told I'd get an appointment through the post for my scan at around 12 weeks.

The appointment letter has arrived already with an appointment for next week; I'll only be 8 weeks then.

Anyone else had this?

Is it ok? Will they still get the information they need, or will I need another scan at 12weeks as well?

Just telephone them and explain, they'll probably rearrange as they won't be able to get the measurements at such an early stage.

Yes it’s fine! The NHS dating scan is usually arranged for twelve weeks, but it can be carried out just as effectively between 8-14 weeks (that’s actually NHS guidance that it should happen between those dates). So eight weeks is on the earlier side but is fine. How exciting it’s so soon!

Nooo.. I had a scan at 8 weeks due to Hyperemesis & my third hospital stay & baby was barely formed! Looked like a kidney bean.. there’s no way they could check the limbs etc! I’ve attached my 8 week + 3 day scan..

Honestly, call up & get the date changed. At 12 weeks, your baby looks like an actually tiny human with a head, arms & legs! It’d be such a shame not to get a proper 12 week scan!

You need to ring them and tell them you will only be 8 weeks and rearrange it for when your 12 weeks(or close) I had my first scan with this pregnancy at 8+5 due to irregular periods thinking I was further along and yes they can measure the 'blob' and tell you an edd they cant do anything else that they do at 12 weeks due to baby not really being formed at 8 weeks. I got booked in again for when I was between 12&13 weeks. Xx
