36+5 baby in position - how long left??

Hi all, so as per title I've just seen the midwife at 36+5 and she's said baby is in position and ready to go. I know this doesn't mean labour is even close, but I was wondering how long after finding out baby is fully engaged did you ladies go into labour? I'm so so done with being pregnant so very eager to get her moving!

Literally no-one can answer this for you. You're going to need to relax and let it happen. The more anxious/stressed/inpatient you are, the more adrenaline you'll produce and it'll tell the baby to stay put as its a stressful time outside at the moment.

Do some relaxing things: watch comedy films, have you hair done, see friends, take your mind off it. It'll happen when baby is good and ready!

In my case about 7 hours..... but they was me and my baby.

I’m guessing this is your first baby?
My first baby was “in position “ from about this time. He was evicted at 41 weeks.
Sorry!

The second and third never engaged due to either a cavernous womb or the fact they were little monkeys who liked staying in footling breech and transverse. Until the scan directly before the c sections and then discovering they had both moved and gone head down. Both 39 weeks.

Try not to obsess. Unless the mother is induced or has an elective section a baby comes when the come.

Good luck

My babies were born at 39 and 39+6 weeks. Second was head down and engaged from (at least) 36 week scan. First was engaged earlier than that IIRC. Unfortunately it doesn't really mean baby will come any time soon. It's a "how long is a bit of string" question.
I can totally sympathise with being over being pregnant though and I was utterly horrified work baby 2 when the pregnancy lasted longer than with baby 1!

I know it's a cliche but (assuming it is your first pregnancy) ENJOY the time relaxing and make the most of the peace. I vastly under estimated how much children would change my life and I'd often give anything for that level of freedom and peace again! Grin

Currently over due by 2 days. Second baby. And no signs yet. baby is in position and fully engaged 😭

Andersonx3 · 07/11/2019 12:22

Thanks all. I know no one can tell me when but it's interesting to hear how long it took everyone else's little ones to arrive! I'm working until 38+4 so in theory I should have some time to relax, however I've had 2 holiday days this week and am already bored!! I'm eager to have her out ASAP because I have spinal arthritis and it's causing me absolute hell. Isn't pregnancy lovely 😖

Dd never engaged and she came at 39+6.

Btw stress hormones actually prevent labour from starting, so the more you worry about it, the less likely it is to happen! Just chill as much as you can and enjoy the last few weeks of rest. Good luck!

Ohilovedinosaurs · 07/11/2019 12:26

My second was engaged at 36 weeks. She came out at 41 weeks Hmm

bluebury · 07/11/2019 12:29

Engaged since 34weeks, every appointment midwifes makes a comment about how I'm all ready to go and will probably have had baby before the next appointment.

I'm now almost 39weeks and not even lost any of my plug...

Buyitinbamboo · 07/11/2019 12:41

Dd was "ready to go" at 32 weeks. Came at 39 after a sweep. I'm 39 with DS now, he's hardly engaged but they say that happens with second babies. Expect he will be a while anyway as I've got a lot going on and can't relax!

agteacht · 07/11/2019 21:39

Ohh how do they know it's engaged?

I am 36w today and had a scan, the sonographer said the scan didn't tell her if the baby is engaged...

Just know that it's head down.

I'd love to know when mines coming too but I think it's just a waiting game 😄

mistermagpie · 07/11/2019 23:23

My first baby didn't engage til I was in labour and he was born at 38 weeks. Second baby didn't either and was born at 39. I don't think it makes much difference. I'm 36+4 just now and baby has been head down for ages but I don't think it means anything.
