Hello

I’m 32 weeks pregnant with my second daughter, our first is called Elsie and she’s 3. I’m really in love with the name Amelie for the new baby but my mum has said they are too similar and a mouthful! What do you all think? I don’t have any other girls names I like and Amelie feels special and right, Elsie has started calling her baby Amelie. But I also don’t want to get loads of comments saying how similar the names are and how it must be confusing for the girls! Help! Opinions please Smile

The only similarity I can see is that they both end in 'ie', but the endings don't actually sound the same. So I think they are fine together, and if a name feels 'special and right' to you, then it's the one to go for.

Ignore what anyone else thinks its your baby!. Annoys me sometimes when people try and put a downer on a name you have chosen for YOUR baby lol. I think both names are lovely and so what if they sound the same? It doesnt really matter does it and more importantly if you and oh love the name then that's all that matters xx

Ignore her! If that’s the name you love then go for it. We’re not telling our parents the names we have picked until babies (twins) are here for the same reason - they just love to comment!! FWIW I think the two names sound lovely together. My friend has Elsie and Ellie and no one bats an eyelid!!

They're both nice names and sound fine together, and since your daughter has already started using it, I would say that Amelie is her name now for sure.

They go really well. I love both those names. They've both both been on my list before Smile

snowflakeeel · 07/11/2019 09:30

They go beautifully together. Personally I don't think they are too similar. My mum wasn't keen on my son's name. Tough. He's our son. Go for it! X

Aww thank you so much for all your lovely messages! It’s my first time posting and this has been on my mind for months and now I feel so much better about it Smile Amelie has definitely got to be the name now! I feel confident now to ignore any comments I get (although will not be telling anyone else. I’ve learnt my lesson!) I’m thrilled as Amelie is the only name we seem to like this time. Thank you so much everyone xxx

The names are lovely, and in not that similar. You've fallen in love with the name Amelie, and it feels special and right to you, so...

Your baby, your choice :)

CAG12 · 07/11/2019 20:27

I think its a lovely pairing of names!

Ffswhytho · 07/11/2019 20:40

The names are both lovely but I am
biased as they are both special to me, Elsie is my grandmothers name and Amelie is my eldest daughters name :)

flowerbombVR · 07/11/2019 20:43

I immediately thought they were lovely sister names too.

Shadow1234 · 08/11/2019 02:15

Amelie is a lovely name and goes well with Elsie. Stick with what you love, as you may have regrets later on x

Thank you 😊 so much ladies! I’m so pleased so many of you think they go nicely together! Xx
