Ok... I’m not sure what I’m suffering with here. Awful pain in my oesophagus like there’s a really hard rock in there and it goes up and down from stomach to throat. It’s sooooooo painful especially when it heads up to my throat.
I never had this pre pregnancy so not sure if it’s nausea or heartburn?? Anyone know what this sounds like? I need to get something to help with it as was woken up at 1am with it- thanks x

Heartburn for me is like burning sensation in my throat and chest/stomach I have chewable Tums which help me when it wakes me in the night. No harm in trying heartburn medication ask at your local pharmacy about it and which is best for you save you a trip to your gp. They may say it isnt heartburn and give you an idea if what else it could be x

Gaviscon tablets worked a treat for me.

Get your doctor to prescribe ranitidine it's far better than gaviscon.

Sounds like indigestion, which is closely linked to heartburn and the words are often used interchangeably.

Try gaviscon liquid, gaviscon tablets or Rennies. You'll find you do a big burp and the pain lessens.

If that doesn't help, you can ask your doctor for ranitidine or omeprosole, which both work in different ways but both help with indigestion and heartburn. I find ranitidine does bugger all for me whereas omeprosole is a gift sent from the angels 😍 it meant I could eat again!!! But you might find it works better the other way round.

I managed to stop taking it around 15 weeks and I'm 35 now, luckily not needed it since.

Also make sure you're drinking enough water and eating healthily! I also found that if I ate too beige and didn't drink enough, I get constipated and that could all have a knock on effect. Iron tablets don't help me with that either!!!

Good luck with your pregnancy and hope the pain goes soon!

Eat less per meal and keep a record of what sets off the heartburn.

I had problems with muesli & yoghurt in the morning , so I switched to low-fat cottage cheese. And in another pregnancy I had trouble with creamy sauces in the evening.

My ob would only prescribe medication when the first-line treatments above didn't work.

Ask your doctor for some omeprazole or ranitidine! Gaviscon & rennie did very little for me.. they worked for all of 5 minutes! I’m on omeprazole & no heartburn at all!

I would second speaking to a doctor, omeprosole made a huge difference for me (I believe ranitidine is not currently available due to a recall).

The other thing which I'm using is a foam "wedge pillow" from Amazon, which again my GP recommended. You sleep with your pillows propped up on it, so your head is elevated. Impossible to know how much it is helping and how much is the medication, but slept properly for the first time in weeks and generally felt a million times better. Good luck!
