Anyone got any tips or tricks as im in bloody agony Sad
Ive tried hot baths and showers which only provide temporary relief and my pregnancy pillow offers some support but doesn't take away the pain nor does a hot water bottle and ive just read online that muscle rub and tiger balm are out of the question due to the ingredients 😭 honestly feels like my ribs are breaking and i have another 12 weeks to go

I'm sure you have been listening to me and read my mind lol. I'm in the same situation as you in total agony.. if I stand up they hurt like mad, sit down they hurt like mad sure baby is having a good old starfish under them, lie down I cant breath proper... at the moment I'm lay in bed with a pillow either side of my back so I can lie on my back but be propped up a bit and its eased it off a little. Only other thing is you could speak with your midwife and see if you can get some type of physio to see if that will help with the pains x

My physio said to put a pillow under your ribs on the side that's hurting and lie sideways on that to stretch it out as far as possible.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 05/11/2019 20:25

lift your arm above your head. stretch it up. and if lying down, do the same. It's sometimes called "rib flare", and I think it's caused by the baby's body/head bit of baby anyhow, being kind of stuck up under your ribs.

I'll try stretching out with my arm up if a pillow shortage is announced its because i already have them all propping up various parts of my body Wink

Oof, I had this last pregnancy - rib flare I think my midwife called it. It was so painful and to be honest, not a lot made it better! Stretching helping or I had a firm, wedge shaped pillow I popped either under my ribs or bump for some support.. similar to this one:

I’ve not had it so far this second pregnancy, praying it doesn’t start now!

I'm getting this and I'm only 18 weeks!😩 I'm getting really bad back ache in the same spot everyday and now I'm getting rib ache in the same place. It really hurts!

Stretching has helped a little and getting up and walking about alleviates it but i need to sleep at some point tonight so can't do that forever. I just hope it goes away once his lordship has finished arranging his feet on my lungs Hmm

I had this with my last pregnancy. I remember feeling uncomfortable. Going shopping getting in the car and with no exaggeration I couldn't move the gear stick thro pain.. I tried to get out car and baby moved then heard and almighty crack.
I rang the docs in agony and luckily they saw me straight away.. It was just up Rd from the shop I walked very slowly. The way I walked in and the pain they thought I was in labour.
I had to get dh to collect my car.. And got a ticket as was there so long but I didn't care.

Inhad a week to go.. In that time. I got stuck in bath. In bed and all sorts.
I'm not one to have anything wrong or fuss but my god this was worse than labour. I welcomed the gas and air for the rib pain alone lol.
After baby born a few days later I was sent for x Ray..
I had 2 cracked ribs..tgeu reckon dd must of done it as no other explanation. But that's something I'll never know

Now 28 weeks with ds and I worry.. Especially as dh mentioned it the other day and reminded me.

As for the pain they gave me codeine. But I took very little as worried about the baby.

Have you tried to move the baby? I had bad rib pain to the point where I felt like my ribs were being opened from the inside and the midwife said it sounded like positional pain. I use to push on my sore rib area and sometimes I could feel my baby move positions and it did help but other than that there’s nothing you can do. I’ve taken maternity leave early due to back ache and other pains but hold in there, not long to go

LucaFritz · 08/11/2019 00:18

I thought only midwives could move the baby about ? And the stretching worked everytime i get a pain now i just put my arms up and it goes Grin thanks for that Wheresthebiffer2

I had AWFUL rib pain. My baby was breech so their head was wedged in my ribs. I used to put frozen peas on the area to try to encourage the baby to move. It did help temporarily... Could be worth a try.
You have my sympathy, I certainly do not miss that pain at all (and it disappeared as soon as the baby was out so at least be reassured it will end!)
