Swollen ankles and high blood pressure - what should I do?

I was admitted to hospital last week due to a complication with my diabetes (type 1) after becoming ill. They mentioned a few times that my heart rate was quite fast.

I saw the midwife on Saturday who mentioned if I had sudden swelling in my hands, feet or face this could be a sign of high blood pressure and to keep an eye out for it. I've come home from work and both ankles are really swollen, I can't remember what the midwife said I should do if this happens Confused

Is it serious? Should I call the pregnancy advice line or wait until tomorrow to speak to my midwife?

Call now, better safe than sorry. Swelling can be a sign of preeclampsia.

@smartcarnotsosmartdriver thanks for replying! I called the advice line and they said that swollen feet & ankles aren't a concern in isolation but to keep an eye on it and if I start to get headaches or problems with my vision to call back.

She also said it might be a sign that I'm a little dehydrated so going to make sure I have at least 2L of water today to be safe.

Thanks again Smile

@MummyBear405 no worries at all. I have other risk factors so I'm on high alert for things like preeclampsia. My midwife has it drilled in to me that it's always better to ask, just in case. Glad everything is ok.
