Terrified of Edwards Syndrome

This may seem completely irrational but I am genuinely worried sick :( after my 12 week scan I received a 1 in 1200 chance of my baby having Edwards or patau’s. Quite a slim chance but then with my son two years ago, my odds were 1 in 56000 so quite a dramatic difference, especially as I’m only 28.
I recently went for a 16 week gender scan, where everything appeared normal, but since looking back on the photos, it seems like my DD has quite a set back chin, something I know is a soft marker of Edwards. I contacted the clinic I had my scan, and the sonographer reviewed the photos and said she can see why I’m worried, but nothing can be done until my 20 week scan. I’m going crazy worrying about it! What do you think to the photo. This one it looks ‘worst’ on, but it does look set back in all the pictures I got of her :( Xxx

I have no idea about the chin, but I paid £400 for a private NIPT test at ten weeks that will give you almost-definite results for Edwards (as well as Downs and Patau).

It might be worth it for your peace of mind?

Hi OP - my results for Downs were drastically different between DD1 and DD2. I contacted my midwife and she referred me back in to antenatal clinic and I spoke with the screening people there. They offered to conduct the harmony test for me which pretty much gives you a conclusive result but in the end I decided not to and just pushed it to the back of my mind.

Speak to your community midwife would be my advice x

It's hard not to worry and easier for me or anyone else to tell you not to, but you have another four weeks to wait and being anxious is just going to drive you round the bend. Please don't google and keep calm! Sending you positive vibes xxxxxx

The NHS scans for anomalies from 18 weeks, could you ask for an early appointment? I'm on holiday 18+1 until after 21, so they're doing mine bang on 18 weeks. It's worth asking the question

@Brum145 I understand and have talked to lots of people with this type of worry. Intellectually you know that the results show a very low chance (as opposed to a very, very low chance) but it does often make people wifely concerned.
Have you got copies of the two results? I’d be happy to look at them & work out why the results are so different. Suggest we discuss by PM to preserve your privacy.
Have you considered NIPT?
