Very bad rib pain 35 weeks

I’m just on 35 weeks now and baby is a good size. His head is down and his kicks are quite strong especially on the right side of my ribs. Today I’ve been in really bad pain with it. I don’t know if a big one has given me bruising and then subsequent kicks hurt more. I actually rang the hospital tonight because it’s so bad. The midwife said to change positions and lying on my side is much better but I can’t get any work done on the computer. Sometimes when my baby is kicking I actually have to have my hand over the sore spot to protect myself. I don’t know what else I can do?

Don’t ignore pain in pregnancy so if it doesn’t ease off, go and see your GP. It’s probably nothing but I tried to ignore pain in pregnancy I thought was muscular which turned out to be something more serious. Luckily the GP spotted it and I was fine. But do get yourself checked out if it doesn’t ease

Thank you, I will definitely go if it doesn’t get better. I can tell it’s from the baby kicking so I don’t think there’s actually anything wrong it’s just very painful

I was in agony with rib pain during my third trimester. Soon as baby was born the pain went!

I went to MAU about it and they did CTG and everything was fine and I told my consultant and she said it's just normal part of pregnancy. You have my sympathy though!

@20viona thank you I’ll take sympathy! Yes unfortunately I think there’s not that much I can do about it. I miss neurofen

I ended up with bruised ribs during my 1st pregnancy.. the Joy's of pregnancy that you dont get told about. I'm currently nearly 28 weeks and in the same boat again baby is getting rite under my ribs hes killing me off. I would take midwifes advice and lie down on your side see if baby shifts to give you some relief xx

Was in exactly the same situation few weeks ago (36 weeks now). What really helped me is going for a few longish walks - the baby dropped a bit after each walk and couldn’t reach the ribs with their feet any more!
