Double cream habit

Expecting baby 2, last couple of weeks I’ve been really enjoying a big bowl of fruit salad (mango, strawberries, grapes etc) with double cream poured over, OH is giving me shit saying I shouldn’t be eating so much double cream as it’s so calorific - so I guess I’m asking, would other people feel ok eating this a few nights a week? Or am I being really indulgent? (For background yes I am overweight but generally eating very healthily since expecting)

I dont think its indulgent at all. After all you cant enjoy a glass of wine or whatever.

Brainbounce · 02/11/2019 13:32

It's all carbs Ginger. You may have a carb addiction.

OhDearEthel · 02/11/2019 13:35

@Brainbounce double cream is all fat. Very very light in the carbs.
Sounds good to me OP, and I have GD. This is the kind of thing that won't spike your blood sugar.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 02/11/2019 13:39

Sounds gorgeous. Clotted cream is even nicer xx

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 02/11/2019 13:39

Not sure why l put kisses on there....

JonnyPocketRocket · 02/11/2019 13:42

It probably depends on the rest of your diet but if that's generally healthy I wouldn't worry about a treat a couple times a week. Most people do the same, pregnant or not - if not with double cream, then with a chocolate bar or a packet of crisps or a couple biscuits or whatever. And better to be pouring your cream over a bowl of fruit than over a slice of chocolate cake! Grin

PrincessSarene · 02/11/2019 13:43

Assuming you’re not getting an enormous family size tub of cream and eating the whole thing each time, then it sounds fine to me.

And tell your OH he can be judgemental about pregnancy diets when he’s the one that’s actually pregnant!! Wink

Boymummy3 · 02/11/2019 13:49

Maybe hes just being cautions as if your overweight their is more risks during pregnancy?? I would say it isnt a massive problem as others have said you could be having alot worse. Maybe just cut down on it a little but that's only if you actually want too lol. Xx

Brainbounce · 02/11/2019 13:51

All the fruit contains fructose!

ThisThat · 02/11/2019 13:53

Well how much are we talking in terms of a tub? Would the tub last the week?

MrsH497 · 02/11/2019 13:54

Honestly at the moment for me (almost 12 weeks) if I fancy it, can eat it and keep it down it's a winner and I think I might give this a try so thank you @Gingerninja01 for sparking a bit of interest in food from me!
Don't see anything wrong as long as it's the usual in moderation and your blood sugar is ok. Fruit is good for you!

Gingerninja01 · 02/11/2019 16:05

Thanks for your replies! It’s a small tub from Sainsbury’s, probably having 1 to 1 and a half a week!

Go for it!

Awrite · 02/11/2019 16:12

Your OH sounds horrible.

Sounds like a very healthy snack to me. Even if it wasn't, he shouldn't be commenting on what you eat.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/11/2019 16:12

I would be very concerned about the amount of extra calories you're taking in.

Preggers86 · 02/11/2019 16:27

I am overweight, bmi was 34.4 when I found out I was expecting. I have eaten chocolate, ice cream, cakes all kinds of naughty stuff after dinner most evenings along with a take away and fast food meal at the weekend. I was so worried about piling on the pounds when I found out was pregnant but have just had want I fancy when I wanted it. I don't drive so have been very active throughout my pregnancy. So I am now 39 weeks pregnant and have put on a total of 8lbs my whole pregnancy.

So I think it's about finding a balance but mainly about enjoying your pregnancy and doing what makes you happy.

Good luck x

BeeFarseer · 02/11/2019 16:31

It's a healthy snack. The cream is all fat, and it will slow how you metabolise the sugar in the fruit, so it will prevent any blood sugar spikes.

Your OH needs to have a word with himself.

yukka · 02/11/2019 16:51

It's not uncommon for pregnant women to crave dairy products. If it's a new desire it could simply be that.

brightbird · 02/11/2019 16:59

Mmmmm, cream! May have to get myself some. (I'm pregnant too, 23 weeks. I haven't really worried about what I eat, don't normally and not starting now. I think it depends on your overall lifestyle. I eat fairly healthily, lots of fruit and veg, get a bit of exercise, and all my blood pressure etc tests so far have been spot on, so I don't worry when I eat a bit of chocolate ice cream from the tub! Anyway stress is no good for you either!)

Gettingonabitnow · 02/11/2019 17:06

Tell him to piss off ask him what he ate he was pregnant instead!! I was eating cream out of the tub with my first and lost the weight after. At least it’s not cream and fudge cake! X

Shaunieh95 · 03/11/2019 12:51

Sounds a lot healthier then what I've been eating OP Blush. You're pregnant enjoy indulging whilst you have the excuse Wink xxx
