Hi all

I have been having additional growth scans due to essential hypertension.

I had a scan this week at 31+6 & was told the estimated weight was 3lb 13oz.

Both the sonographer and registrar reported this was very much on the small side & less than expected. Baby had been following the 50th centile up to now so this has dropped (I feel) significantly although no one seems particularly concerned.

I have a further growth scan at 36+1 when they will make a decision on possible induction if growth has slowed again. My blood pressure is stable currently (with medication) and placental blood flow etc all fine.

From what I can see online approx 4lb 7oz would be average at 32 weeks

Anyone else have experiences of a ‘low’ estimated weight at 32 weeks?

I was told not to worry but of course I am Sad

Thanks in advance

I don't know if it helps but I am 30 + 1 and my growth scan today was 3 pound 6 which is almost the 50th percentile so nothing to worry about.
Baby dropped on my scan prior to 34th and they said not to worry because it wasn't below 10th.

5 weeks seems a long time to wait before having another growth scan, have you got a liquor volume & Doppler scan inbetween? How much on your growth chart has it dropped?

Hi @Brookers01234 - I had a growth scan on Monday at 32 weeks and my little girl weighs under 4lbs. They're totally happy with that and I didn't (and don't) feel worried.

And I'm a worrier, believe me!

My son is 10 now so can’t remember exact details but the doctors found out he was small around that time and I had to go for appointments once a week from then on. At 35 weeks they thought he really wasn’t growing enough and I was induced. The good news is that most babies with inter uterine growth restriction catch up within the first two years and have no further health problems. My son was fine and we only stayed in hospital for a week. I’m sure they’ll weigh up the pros and cons of you having the baby early. Some babies are naturally small I think it just depends if the growth really slows compared to how it was. Try to rest and eat and drink as much as you can.

Those measurements are way off. There’s not real way to measure honestly. It’s all est. my “huge” baby expected to be 11 pounds and So I stupidly booked a section... my baby wasn’t even 7 pounds.
