hi, not PG yet but when I am with baby no 2 I really want to find out the sex in advance. I went to Barnet/Edgware hospitals last time and they don't tell you. Which other hospital will tell you in the Barnet/Brent/Harrow/Watford/Herts areas?

thanks

I've heard Watford will tell you but it costs £100! I don't want to find out, but I was a bit surprised to hear that!

elesbells · 17/08/2007 10:52

my friend had hers at northwick park and they told her. its not had a good reputation in the past though.

Phraedd · 18/08/2007 11:35

bupa will tell you but it is expensive

Roseylea · 18/08/2007 11:38

No no no- Watford def. won't. I doubt if any NHS ones would tbh - you probably have to pay for a scan. They've become much stricter in the last 3 yrs - when I had ds who is now 3.5 y o they told me but apparantly I was one of the last to be told!

Lister in Stevenage told me.....no problem.

PippiLangstrump · 18/08/2007 11:53

!!!! saffymum I just moved to Barnet and just got a BFP and assumed (don't ask me why) that they would tell you!!! bugger!!! are you sure??? last time I was at the whittington and they did not say at first and then changed their policy because they did. OH I cannot believe this I sooo want to know!!!

sparklygothkat · 18/08/2007 11:54

stevenage told me

kel4mum · 18/08/2007 12:04

Chase Farm wouldn't tell me but that was over 6 years ago. My SIL is pregnant now and having her baby at Chase Farm and they said that they will tell her at the 20 week scan, so they have probably changed their policy.
I had a 3D scan done privately and they told me the sex of the baby but that cost nearly £200 but that did include all the extra stuff and was an amazing experience.

mummydoit · 18/08/2007 13:04

Lister in Stevenage told me both times.

fleacircus · 18/08/2007 13:16

Whittington told us at 20wk scan; we asked so I don't know if they would have offered the information otherwise but they didn't have a problem with telling us, although they said it's not 100% (we're having a girl - I guess with boys they can probably be more definite!)

PippiLangstrump · 18/08/2007 13:55

fleacircus they changed their policy when I was prgenant with DD, 2 years ago, luckily for me as I really wanted to know, as I do this time.

enjoying your pgcy?

MarsLady · 18/08/2007 14:00

They are more definite with boys than girls because what they assume to be a girl could in fact be a boy with his bits tucked between his legs.

They definitely tell you at the Whittington and have done for a couple of years now. I would imagine more hospitals do again. Just call and ask.

MuffinMclay · 18/08/2007 15:09

If your hospital won't tell you, Verulam Clinic (St Albans) will do a sexing scan for £100. Also BUPA Hitchin and Harpenden.

Luton & Dunstable won't tell you, so I'm going to have one done in St Albans.

lisad123 · 18/08/2007 16:26

Lister told me

Phraedd · 18/08/2007 16:57

barnet definately does't tell you

Curlygirly · 18/08/2007 17:46

Barnet have changed their policy and will tell you now if you want to know. I had my 20 wk scan there 2 wks ago and they would have told me if I wanted.

PippiLangstrump · 18/08/2007 19:11

thank you curlygirl you've made my day!!!!!!

PippiLangstrump · 18/08/2007 19:12

curlygirl..y! sorry.

JoanCrawford · 18/08/2007 19:13

Chase Farm in Enfield do.

They've recently changed their policy.

kerala · 18/08/2007 19:34

Royal Free Hampstead did no problem

Minniethemoocher · 02/05/2008 11:36

Watford won't tell you - that was over 5 years ago with DD, seems a shame that the only way to know is if you pay privately!

paddycat · 02/05/2008 12:02

Watford/Hemel/St Albans (all West Herts Trust) - told me 4 years ago but policy has now changed. There is now a sign up in the room at Watford saying its due to the fact that the anomaly scan is not designed for that purpose. However I've heard different reasons given to different people - namely fear of liability for getting it wrong, takes too long and people want to come back for a 2nd scan if they can't tell at the 1st, and (from a nurse in the termination clinic) that its due to people wanting to terminate if they get told the "wrong" sex. Any other reasons given?!

kkey21 · 02/05/2008 15:24

QE11 WGC/Hertford county DO tell you.....Although the policy changes from time to time but at moment they definately do....

Mizza76 · 03/05/2008 22:14

Royal Free tell you even if you don't want to know... well they did me, anyway! I was in for a very late scan - at 33 weeks - due to suspected gestational diabetes (which I didn't have in the end) and specifically told them I didn't want to know. The person doing the scan was great and referred to 'the baby' - no gender - throughout. However, when she was done, a trainee doctor (or something), who had been present the entire time and had heard my request, asked whether she could have a look as well. I let her and then she suddenly referred to the fetus as 'she'. The first woman jumped up and started explaining to me that some people refer to fetuses as 'he' and some as 'she' so I shouldn't read anything into it but it was absolutely obvious that I was having a girl... which of-course I did. I was pretty annoyed.

MegBusset · 03/05/2008 22:18

Barnet & Chase Farm will now tell you, for sure.
