Reassurance needed! 11 weeks and small bleed after BM :(

Hi all, just looking for some reassurance and some similar positive experiences. I am 11 weeks pregnant, had a scan last weekend and baby was fine with a nice strong heartbeat and wriggling around. On Tuesday I had very slight spotting after a BM, which then stopped. Same happened Wednesday, so I rang GP and am booked into EPAU tomorrow morning. Today I tried to have BM again today and now I have had a bright red bleed, fingers crossed I think it has stopped again but I’m so worried. Should I be going to A&E or waiting until tomorrow. I’m very anxious, I’ve had a previous miscarriage and a chemical pregnancy after IVF and this is a much wanted, surprise that happened a few months after IVF. During IVF I was told I have a cervical ectropian, I’m not sure if I do now or not?! I’m also currently weaning down cyclogest that I only took as a precaution. Any positive replies would be great, please help!

How sure are you where the blood is coming from? Is it happening at any other times or just when you have a BM?
Obviously EPU will be helpful tomorrow, but it sounds to me that it is actually coming from your bum, not your vagina. Have you been a bit constipated? That can cause a bit of bleeding, nothing to do with baby.

Lj8893 · 31/10/2019 16:09

Obviously nobody can be sure but it doesn’t sound too concerning to me. Are you absolutely sure it’s vaginal bleeding?
Cervical ectropion can cause mild bleeding also, and is quite common in early pregnancy.

I completely understand your worries and anxiety about this, but A&E isn’t the right place for you, it’s very unlikely they will be able to scan you or offer any further reassurance, if anything it’s likely to cause you more anxiety.

MLP123 · 31/10/2019 16:11

Thanks for your reply. I am 100% sure it is not coming from the back end. The progesterone I’m taking does cause a bit of constipation so I’m wondering if the slight straining is causing my cervix to bleed maybe, I just hope to god that’s the case and I’m not going to have another miscarriage.

@Nanmumandmidwife it does only happen at the moment after a BM, but it is definitely not from the back end. There seems to be nothing after. I experienced a similar thing when I had a previous miscarriage and this makes me very anxious. I only got to 6 weeks that time and never had a scan or saw a HB, so I know it’s different this time as I’ve seen a healthy baby on the scan last weekend, but I just can’t help but worry.

Hello I can’t offer any advice other than that I hope it is all fine, but in regards to a and e, in my experience they will still examine you and may be able to offer a scan depending on how many doctors are in and how busy they are etc. If something is distressing you to the point it is affecting you mentally, they I feel that could warrant an a and e visit just to talk to somebody and for some reassurance, even if it is isn’t classed as an “emergency”.

MLP123 · 31/10/2019 16:37

Thanks, as it has now stopped, I think our A&E dept would probably advise I wait until my appt tomorrow morning?! It’s so hard to know what to do in this situation.

Yes they would probably say wait if it has stopped now (this is w good sign that it isn’t continuous). You could always ring 111 for some more advice if you’re still worried this evening though.

Hey OP, I have cervical ectropian too and went in to the local antenatal clinic at about 20 weeks due to spotting, the consultant said bowl movements, sex and thrush can all cause spotting if you have cervical ectropian, so I wouldn't worry too much (if possible!).

I have found that throughout my pregnancy (currently 33 weeks) Ive had a couple of incidents of spotting and can usually attribute it to one of the things the Dr said could cause it.

MLP123 · 31/10/2019 18:50

Hi Chips4dinneragain! Congratulations on reaching 33 weeks! I can’t wait to get to that point! Thanks for your reply, that fills me with a bit of hope! I know chances of MC goes down after seeing a HB and as the weeks pass, but I’ve had some pretty bad luck in the last couple of years so I can’t help but worry! I am going to the EPAU tomorrow so I’m going to ask them to scan me for reassurance and if that all looks ok, I’ll ask them to check my cervix to see if it is the ectropian causing my random spotting! Fingers crossed that’s all it is!!

Hi OP, I have cervical ectropian too and always get a little bloody discharge after a BM, sometimes quite a bloody streak if I I strain too much. It was quite alarming early on in my 1st pregnancy, and I'm now 28 weeks into my second and pretty used to it! I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry, I think it's well within the realms of normal :)

MLP123 · 31/10/2019 19:03

Hi starglass, thanks for your response. Congratulations on your pregnancy. I’m so relieved to hear that I’m not the only one who has experienced this. Hopefully tomorrow’s scan will be ok and then I can start to relax and enjoy my pregnancy! Google can cause so much stress when you search for pregnancy and bleeding! I’ve read so many horror stories about MC and MMC that I’ve terrified myself!! I’m so glad I came on here and have been given some reassurance and positive stories!

It’s happened to me a couple of times after pushing too much Blush currently 17 weeks and all is fine ☺️

MLP123 · 31/10/2019 19:13

Thanks starlightmagic! Congratulations on your pregnancy! So glad to know I’m not the only one! Smile

If it was a mc, they can't stop it, sorry to be blunt. It's a horrible wait but at least it's soon. You can get private scans too at quite a reasonable price.

I've had bleeding that led to healthy babies, and bleeding that had a sad ending. Your odds are good if a heartbeat was seen at 11 weeks.

PhannyPharts · 31/10/2019 19:25

I had several blends throughout my pregnancy. One at 11 weeks which was minor. And at other intervals including some fairly major ones at 31, 33 and 35 weeks. It can mean so many things and it's so worrying. And the worst thing is feeling so powerless.

I'm sat here writing with my five year old boy asleep upstairs.

I hope all is well for you. Sending a handhold

MLP123 · 31/10/2019 19:26

Thanks @cottonsock, after having a MC previously I’m aware that there is nothing that can be done to stop it. I’m just trying to stay positive! I had a private scan on Sunday, not due to any bleeding, just because my dating scan is not for a few weeks and with my previous history I was feeling a bit nervous. All was great with the scan so I’m just hopeful this is due to my previous ectropian and that it is nothing more sinister.

I had this with both of my pregnancies. One is 7 and the other is 4 now. Apparently I have a sensitive cervix? I'm sure you'll be fine OP Flowers

MLP123 · 31/10/2019 19:29

Thank @PhannyPharts, again that gives me some reassurance, I know bleeding can be a normal part of pregnancy for a lot of women, yet it’s such a worry when it does happen. I’m glad to hear that everything went well for you.

Thank you @WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl I’ll be sure to update you all tomorrow, hopefully with some good news! Fingers crossed.

I had quite a heavy bleed at 11 weeks. Dd is 8 months old now. I know it's easier said than done.

MLP123 · 01/11/2019 12:41

Thanks for all your kind words yesterday everyone. Had my scan today and all was well! They couldn’t really see an obv reason for the bleeding, but made me have an anti-D jab anyway given my history and my blood group. They wouldn’t check me to confirm ectropian either so I’m still a bit in the dark, but feeling much better.

Great news OP, here's hoping to an uneventful remaining 29 weeks for you!

PhannyPharts · 03/11/2019 17:39

Oh that's such a relief to see. I'll keep everything crossed for you and the rest of the pregnancy is smooth

Analysts fissures or hemroids probably
