Empty sac miracles?

Hi all,

I'm in my 7th week of pregnancy and 2 days ago experienced a little blood when I wiped. Yesterday I went for my first ever ultrasound and they found the sac but could not see an embryo :( Gynae told me to return in a week as it didn't look good.

I have been consulting Dr Google since last night and have read about some women who also experienced no embryo but then it showed a week later, and other women who had blighted ovum and it eventually flushed out. Late last night I was on the loo and felt a small blood clot come out (1cm in length, 6mm wide perhaps) :(

I otherwise have no cramps, my BBT is still high, and my boobs are still sore. Please has anyone experienced this and gone on to carry to full term? This wait is making me so sad.

Thanks xx

Did you have an internal scan? As this early an abdominal scan cant really pick alot up.. I've not personally had this but usually around 7weeks is when baby is visable/heartbeat visable... is there a chance you are earlier than you think? This could be the case and in two weeks they will be able to see on the scan. I would stay away from google though as it will probally worry you more. Fingers crossed for you xx

Thanks Boymummy3, it was a transvaginal scan. I'm confident I was 7 weeks +3 yesterday as I'd been monitoring my ovulation forensically for the last 10 months but this has never been confirmed by anyone. This was the first medic I've seen since falling pregnant.

I guess I'll just have to wait now for either miscarriage symptoms or an embryo to miraculously appear xx

Unfortunately i had this in April but i thought i was 11 weeks, i had a bit of a bleed and went for a scan i was told there was an empty sac and a placenta but no baby 😔 i had to go back a week later to confirm then i had to have a d&c as i only ever had 2 small bleeds nothing else no pain or anything. I really hope you have a better out come than i did as u are earlier so maybe datea could be off. If you need an ear im here. And there's hope no matter what happens as now im 18 weeks pregnant it happened 2 months after the d&c

I went in for an ultrasound after loads of cramps, doctors estimated I was about six weeks. They saw a sac but it was empty. Told me to come back the next week and there was a yolk sac in there, a few days later baby was there! I'm now 15 weeks and seen bubba moving around quite a few times now. Hopefully it's the same for you. Good luck!

ALittleBitWorried1983 · 30/10/2019 23:18

I forgot to add that they thought I was six weeks but I was actually only about four - which is why they couldn't see anything. It might be that you're earlier than you think.

To both ladies above, thank you for replying! I'm not too hopeful as I'm pretty sure that my dates are correct but I'd love to find out I'm wrong :')

I will update the result in due course. Please do continue sharing experiences about empty sacs though as the results are so varied xx

My empty sac is currently snoring away in a snuz pod next to me. I thought I knew my dates completely and I didn’t. Worst thing you can do is stress good luck x

FikaBrit · 31/10/2019 07:56

@JJSS123 that's really cute, so happy to read that :)

This morning my BBT was 36.93c, highest I've ever had, then during my morning wee I passed a decent amount of bloodclots :(

I still want to stay hopeful, I have no pain at all xx

U could be earlier than u think, this time around, i had a scan at 5w 3d nothing to do with the pregnancy it was a pre booked scan to check my ovaries but the dr sais i waites long enough to get it so go any way, the sonographer didnt say anything to me but she sent the report and picture to my dr, she said there was a thinkened lining and a sac building but nothing else to be seen. So could be something like that

Jsh125 · 01/11/2019 14:18

The waiting & wondering is so hard.

I had an early scan due to bleeding (enough to assume it was my period initially but it then stopped) & they could see sac but nothing in it, went back a week later & there was the baby & a heartbeat - she's now 9 months old.

Bleeding is worrying of course especially with clots but it doesn't definitely mean bad news.

Fingers crossed for a positive outcome Smile

My first baby I bled a ton to the point I thought miscarriage. There was also just a sack with him. He’s 3 now And quite the giant! I think when you’re really early it just doesn’t show up yet!

JJSS123 · 06/11/2019 18:09

Thinking of you op wondering if any news x

FikaBrit · 06/11/2019 20:09

@JJSS123 so sweet of you to check in :) I've been quiet as have had my sister visiting over a long weekend and was kept very busy to distract me.

Ok so I still haven't seen anyone since that first scan (it's now been 9 days since that first blood swipe and 8 days since the empty sac scan). My temperature has remained high everyday but my boobs have definitely deflated and the pain barely hurting, and as of about 4 days ago I've had no red or brown discharge.

However 2 days ago I got creamy CM, which bought me back to my pre-ovulation days. And today I took a pregnancy test and it was a strong positive. I know I shouldn't think too much into it as I read that hormones can take many weeks to go down but I'm remaining on a pregnancy diet until I see my gynae next Tuesday.

I'm silently praying for a miracle but I am prepared for the reality. I'd say that seeing an empty sac and passing medium sized clots has pushed away most of my hopes though.

Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences, it's been really comforting xxx

Hi all,

I finally saw my gynae yesterday. He did a very clear ultrasound and I could see the sac, the inner lining and a small dot inside at the bottom. It was far too small for the size that I ought to be now (at 9/10 weeks) The inner lining was also not circular, and had a strange peak at the top. The conclusion is that the baby likely died when I had bled 19 days ago.

I was given the options of waiting to miscarry naturally, take the pills or to have a D&C. About 10 minutes ago I went to the bathroom and I have started bleeding (no pain) and so I think my decision may have been made for me.

I'm sad that the outcome is this but I am hopeful as I am able to conceive naturally and will get back on it asap. Hope everyone out there is having a better weekend xxx

Oh love. I’ve had medical management and a natural and the natural was far less painful. Thinking of you, your time will come I promise xxxxx

Hi all,

Just updating here roughly 8.5 months since my MC. I believe I had not ovulated at all since the MC (first I bled for a couple of months then had food poisoning 1 month so too ill to test let alone BD, and then had several months of negative OPKs). Lockdown then set us back a while and finally I had a hycosy bout 3 weeks ago. I finally ovulated this cycle (hopefully kick started by the hycosy) and now I am on CD 32, AF is definitely due by now, if not tomorrow. I was getting excited as my BBT has not dropped to the cover line yet either BUT then read online that hycosys can delay AF :(

We have now been TTC for 18 months and I feel hopeless. The bright side is that once AF arrives we are going for our first of 3 rounds of IUI. If they don't work then we will begin IVF. If none of that works then we will call it quits.

Thanks for the support during the darker days last year xx
