Hi all,

Really hoping you can all help me.

I am really trying to figure out how far along I am . I have very irregular periods - haven’t had one since beginning of August- so that doesn’t really help.

On the 24th October I did a Clear Blue test which said I was 2-3 weeks since conception.

I happen to know the dates my DH and I did the BD recently- only on September 25 and on October 7th.

I’m really desparate to know as most of September/ October I was away on holiday indulging A LOT and am panicking about the amount of alcohol I had (the day before the test I had over 12 drinks), some risky medications (Atvian in high amounts), as well as being at 4000 metres about sea level (e.g. very high altitude!)

We are both over the moon about the baby! We were planning on trying once we got back from the holiday. I am just so anxious it is unsafe.

Please help if you can! Sorry I am so new/dumb with this stuff.

The tests aren’t that accurate I’m afraid, especially when there’s only a couple of weeks in it. It’s very unlikely to be the earlier date as the test was 21 days from the second time but not impossible (you could have ovulated on 30th September as sperm could have still been alive, which would have been 24 days since you took the test and depending on your hcg levels this could come up as 2-3 weeks).

You really need to see a doctor if you’re concerned about medication you’ve taken. Lots of people drink heavily in early pregnancy as they don’t know they are pregnant, and people fly while pregnant so I wouldn’t worry about that.

I have been reading all about FAS online and am now terrified! We were having 6+ drinks most days on the last week of our holiday and as I say a really big goodbye just before we left of over 12 drinks.

I’m not so worried about the flying- I spent two weeks hiking at over 3000m above sea level, even sleeping at these altitudes in tents etc.

The medication I will bring up with the doctor!

They will date you from your last period no matter what because that just what they do. Unfortunately until you have your dating scan at '12wk' you wont know for sure how far along you are unless you book yourself in for around 8weeks privately.

If on 24th you got a 2-3 you will be classed as around 4/5 weeks pregnant but as I say they will literally go from your last period. From my lmp I was classed as 14 week at my dating scan (I knew I wasnt because I had tested earlier and got a negative) turned out I was rite cos I was only 9 weeks at my scan but unfortunately they just go from your lmp.

In regards to the drinking/medication... it's done now you cant take it back and you didn't do it in purpose I was heavily drinking the night I found out I was pregnant with my 1st . Just made sure I didn't drink after finding out I would bring up the medication but likely story is it hasnt done any damage, alot of medication is frowned upon during pregnancy simply because they cant test everything on unborn children so of course they just advise to stay away x

The risk that you've done any harm is really really small. It's a very common story that women were drinking and indulging for the first few weeks of pregnancy (not realising they were pregnant!) Just try to be on best behaviour from now onwards - lots of water and fruit and veg. Are you taking folic acid?

Hi, I was worried the same as you because I hadn't realised I was pregnant and had been attending a lot of events for that first two weeks and drank plenty (trust me!).

What I have read online and studies would say that for the first two weeks it is highly unlikely that the alcohol will harm the baby because its not actually taking in what you are consuming yet. That at least makes me comfortable!

Plus, I have had lots of friends and family who didn't realise until even later that they were pregnant and drank significantly, all have perfectly fine babies.

Book yourself an early scan to confirm dates, I had one at 6 weeks and it was very reassuring.
