I’m 11 weeks pregnant and just went to the loo there as had a super sore tummy (I have ibs and it felt like those kind of pains) had diarrhoea then obv wiped. Noticed there was some bloody discharge on the tissue but assumed from the back end as this has happened before. Checked by putting some tissue just inside my vagina and it’s actually coming from there. It’s old brown blood and not much but I’m absolutely terrified. Back and abdo been sore and crampy the past few days. Can anyone advise? Would straining and tummy pain cause vaginal bleeding? I’m so so scared, never bled at all with my first and been fine up until now with this one, had a private scan at 9 weeks and all fine. I’ve already called nhs111 and waiting on a call from the on call gp but I’d really appreciate some words of wisdom. Thanks

It’s so horrible when this happens.
I had the same, and it was nothing, pregnancy went well after that.

Best of luck with it all x

Similar thing happened to me at about the same time. It turned out fine and currently have a 6yo asleep next to me on holiday but please please get checked out. ThanksThanksThanks

Thank you all for replying, it’s already made me feel better. Can I ask (if you remember), did you get seen at EPU straight away to get a scan when it happened? My 12 week scan is next week and I just don’t think I can wait until then, I feel sick, I’ve cried so much I’ve given myself a headache, I just don’t want to be in limbo for over a week.

Same happened to me the day before my 12 week scan. I couldn't wait the extra day and went straight to the hospital demanding a scan. The nurse was a bit sniffy since I didn't have an appointment and told me it could be a long wait, but it was actually totally normal and the doctors were really nice. Baby was totally fine and now 10 months old snoring in the next room.

I don't live in the UK so I'm not sure how it works there since scans seem to require referrals(?) It's a lot more relaxed here and I've always been able to get reassurance scans on the spot. I also had random bleeding at 15, 17 and 18 weeks so I did a few mad dashes to hospital.

One thing I did notice is that doctors and nurses were totally unfazed at the sight of a pregnant woman telling them about bleeding. I think it actually happens extremely often and they already know that in 99% of cases the baby is completely fine. I only had mild spotting bleeding. A friend of mine pregnant at the same time had massive gushing bleeds and baby was totally healthy.

Brown blood is more likely to be okay and can be dislodged by straining a bit, I think. What about a private reassurance scan?

Ilovelala · 28/10/2019 22:52

I'd get a private scan if you can't wait. Brown blood is a better sign than red. Wish you well

GrumpyHoonMain · 28/10/2019 22:57

I had the same thing at 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks right about the time I would have normally started my period. As long as it isn’t getting worse or heavier by day it’s perfectly normal

peachgreen · 28/10/2019 23:03

I've had bleeding in both pregnancies - one ended in miscarriage, one is now a healthy 22mo. By which I mean you really can't read too much into it, as hard as it is not to. If you saw a HB at 9 weeks then everything is more than likely fine. Flowers

Yellowredpurple · 28/10/2019 23:37

I’m at the out of hours just now, been referred by nhs111. I will pay for private tomorrow if they don’t do it themselves. Thanks again for the reassurances

Unfortunately impossible for us to say really, I bled with all my pregnancies, 2 ended in mc but 3rd is a long streak of 6ft plus dd now!

Brown tends to be old blood which is less likely to be problematic but only way to know is to be checked out.

Good luck Thanks

Hi i had today my 20 weeks scan and i have been told that my baby boy have a little bit to much fluid in his brain. The normal is 10mm and my have 10.8. Its ventriculomegaly. Im very scared. I have been refferd to another hospital to a special doctor and another scan. Its my second pregnency and im very worried. Please does anyone had similar experience?

OctoberLovesCasper · 29/10/2019 01:11

@Lorena2014

You need to make your own thread

Char1997 · 29/10/2019 01:43

I had bleeding at 17 weeks, was in the shower and washing when i noticed there was bright red blood coming from that area. I was in an absolute state and rang the maternity ward number who advised me to go to A&E straight away. Turns out I have a polyp on my cervix which caused the bleeding! They obviously advised me to keep and eye and any further bleeding to go straight back.

Brown blood does sound like old blood coming out which could be from your last period etc! Hopefully out of hours will be able to tell you exactly what it is now! They usually have some sort of scanner in the non maternity departments for things like this!

Fingers crossed OP Flowers

Nillynally · 30/10/2019 07:31

I bled brown blood for just shy of a week when I was 16 weeks. Now have 4 and half month old snoring in the crook of my arm. We went for a scan to put our mind at ease and I needed anti d injection as I am Rneg.

Monique007 · 30/10/2019 13:17

@Lorena2014 I’m afraid no one can assure you that all will be good or not.
I had something similar thing in one of my pregnancies but it all depends on the scan you will be offered next, as the hospital will check better and check also for other abnormalities. My story might assure you or scare you so I prefer not say anything at the moment as your case it most probably be completely different.

It won’t be easy waiting for your next app but I think then it’s when you’ll know more.
It could be nothing or a lot of things, but that’s what only specialists can tell you.

I hope all will be good with you and baby and that you’ll find a way to keep you mind busy until the scan!!

Lots of love!!

Lorena2014 · 30/10/2019 15:57

I hope Its everything will be Ok. I will let you know after my scan that i will have tommorow with the specialist.
