Heartburn in pregnancy HELP

Thinking about trying something stronger than gaviscon , it’s truly horrendous .

Has anyone used omeprazole for heartburn in pregnancy ? I don’t want to but I’m so uncomfortable, and worried about taking prescription medicines whilst pregnant

Any advice / ppl in a similar position ?

Get own brand over counter ‘gaviscon’ from pharmacist and ignore dose advice (within reason) - glug it!
Nibbling on crackers can help and sleeping propped up a bit. How far on are you? Things often improve when baby drops.

Go to the pharmacy and buy ranitidine tablets.

Omeprazole didn't work for me but ranitidine did.

Another vote for ranitidine. But get a doctor to prescribe it as it’s triple the strength of the stuff you can buy. Mine was so bad I couldn’t drink water without it burning and this mostly sorted it.

Not in pregnancy but I have severe acid reflux and was on omeprazole, and switched to lansaprazole as it’s vegan. Both work with gaviscon as needed throughout the day and before bed.

I never found anything that worked for me I'm afraid. I had to sleep sitting up, leaning to my left and swigged bloody Gaviscon endlessly. Everyone was quite correct, dd came out with a full head of hair!

Omeprazole worked for me. Sometimes it's trial and error

A midwife in one of my ante-natal classes mentioned how different things work for different people or different pregnancies, sometimes for no clear reason. She urged us not to give up on finding a solution for the dreaded heartburn if one thing doesn't work! She did mention that even over the counter stuff like Gavsicon and Rennie has different effects on different people. I was shocked that Gavsicon didn't work on me to be honest, as I have been lucky enough to hardly ever have heartburn before so I somehow thought that it would work like magic. I then worried Rennie wouldn't work at all either as I don't think they're any stronger, but they have turned out to be a total lifesaver for me. I bring them everywhere. Magic little squares! Anyways the moral is don't give up, try different solutions till you find something that works - and I hope you find it soon!

I chew on tums like theres no tomorrow lol. Rennies/gaviscon I cant stand and didn't work for me but tums work for me but as others have said if you go to your gp they can prescribe stronger stuff that seems to work xx

I bought low dose ranitidine from the supermarket and that was enough for me so far. I don't get much relief from gaviscon.
