Pregnancy Rhinitis

Hi everyone

I am really hoping someone can give me some advice!

I am really, really suffering with a constant blocked nose and sneezing. I’ve had it almost every day during pregnancy and I am 5.5 months and sick of it!! My poor nose is cracked and bleeding from all the nose blowing (and yes, I do use tissues with balm, I think I would have rubbed it off if I didn’t!)

Does anyone know any natural remedies? So far I’ve tried.....

Vicks
Olbas Oil
Saline spray
Washing face regularly
Cold compress
Steam
Cold air
Vaseline around nose
Ignoring it/trying not to blow (snot literally flowed out of my nose like a river, totally gross!)
Lots of crying 😩

None of it works! My midwife just said it was one of those things, and I know it sounds stupid but it is really getting me down - I’m exhausted as it keeps me up all night, I don’t ever want to do anything cos I’m sneezing all the time, I’m in pain, look awful, etc etc. Sometimes I start to panic as snot will drip down into my throat and I feel like I’m drowning!

Help!

You have my entire snot filled face worth of sympathy because I'm in exactly the same boat. I've been absolutely miserable for months with it now, it's turned into sinusitis twice which is agony and there is nothing that helps (I've tried everything you've tried!).

I'm 35 weeks and honest to god if this doesn't go away when the baby is born I'm going to be so fed up.

I've had two babies before and never had this symptom but I'm like you, my nose is red raw and I'm so embarrassed at work or going out by how much I have to blow my nose and how much of a mess I look. My car is basically filled with snotty tissues,

No advice but I feel your pain!

I used nasal strips to keep my nostrils open at night and they really made a difference to me. Also Neilmed sinus rinse is better than the saline sprays as it gets into the nasal passages much better (you can get it at Boots).

When I have a cold I use a balm on my nose called Happinose - the only place I could find this recently when I needed some more was on Amazon, but it soothes as well as helping to unblock.

I hope you both get some relief. I've not had it as badly as you have but I do usually get horrific colds that always go into my sinuses so I can totally sympathise.

@mistermagpie Oh gosh, that sounds awful! I am sorry to hear that you’re feeling so bad too. To start with I thought it was hay fever, but as the months plodded on and it was bloody constant I realised the true hell I was in for 😩

@Weathergirl1 thank you! I will get some nasal strips and that balm and see if they help :)

I was the same, thought it was hayfever and then a series of colds but it just never ended. It's actually got worse as I've gone along!

Same here the constant snot is brilliant coupled with morning sickness 🤢.
