Hi

So I work full time and I’m due in December so I’ll be going onto smp and then claiming universal credit as a top up for my wage.

Will I be able to claim the sure start maternity grant during this time?

If you're on universal credit and you or you're partner haven't had a baby before you could be eligible.

Search the government website and you'll find the criteria

I have had a look linking and it does say first baby and if in receipt of benefits but as I’ll still technically be employed but just on maternity and in receipt of benefits then would I still qualify? Might be one for CAB

@Nc77 I do believe you can still get the maternity grant. May be worth a call to ask?
Can I ask what the universal credit is and how you get it If you work full time?

I doubt it because you get normal pay for 6 weeks before smp kicks in, unless you are very low income

Hi, I was wondering what the outcome was if you don't mind sharing? I'm in a similar position. Long term sick during pregnancy has resulted in low earnings making me eligible for UC when baby arrives as I'll be receiving Sat Mat Pay only.

Did you apply once UC was confirmed or before?
