Hi all.

I posted here a couple of weeks ago as I’ve had debilitating nausea and sickness. My midwife and doctor haven’t diagnosed me with HG but they put me on anti sickness tablets that have only helped a tiny percent.

I was told by my pregnant friend to test my urine as I’ve haven’t kept anything down in days. I did the tests at home and it’s come out as ++keotones (4ml detected). Is that normal, considering the sickness and lack of eating? She said I should only be concerned if it was ++++!

Has anyone experienced ++? Unsure whether to speak to my doctor or midwife as I feel I’m being a drama queen.

I'd call the midwife or doctor, I'm a diabetic and anything over 0.5 mmol would result in my calling my nurse. It might just be that your body is messed up with all the sickness and isn't producing insulin correctly but at least you will know for sure. Its not worth the risk in opinion that it is something and you didn't call (though its probably fine).

Head over to the HG support thread - you don’t need a diagnosis to access their fabulous support.

Imo what’s most important here is how you feel- are you keeping water down? Managing small bits of food?

If the answer is no a&e for rehydration can really help.

@MarieMarie2019 I’ve been admitted 3 times this pregnancy, twice on ++ and once on +. My GP was really pushy with the hospital as she doesn’t believe ketones are the only sign of dehydration. I was pale, had lost over half a stone, my skin & lips were incredibly dry & peeling and my skin didn’t spring back when pinched. On each admission I’d kept barely any water down in over 24 hours and about 3 bites of toast..

Please go back to your GP if need or if they won’t help, A&E who will at least give you a drip for ketones in urine, even if you aren’t admitted.

Sending love
