How did you tell DP/DH you're pregnant?

Currently TTC first baby together. When BFP arrives 🤞 I'd love to surprise DP rather than just tell him.

How did you tell your DH/DP? Looking for inspiration!

I literally came down stairs with the test sat next to him and said... Happy Birthday and gave him the test lol...

There is probably lots of good ideas though online have a Google see what comes up. I've seen one where they emptied the knives/fork draw put in a baby grow/vest the pregnancy test and something saying daddy on it.. then they made their partner go get a 'knife' and when he opened it obv he seen it. Thought it was a lovely idea x

KellyHall · 21/10/2019 16:49

My dh thought he couldn't have children. At breakfast one morning, I said "you know how you thought you couldn't have children? You're wrong!" And I handed him the positive test.

DisneyMadeMeDoIt · 21/10/2019 16:58

I had a fair few ideas as to how I’d ‘surprise’ DH but in reality this only works if DH doesn’t know all of your lady business- Mine is a Dr and very astute! He knew the date I’d ovulated and walked to meet me from work on ‘test day’. He sat outside the bathroom door whilst I peed (🤔 he did try to follow me in but that was a no 😂😂).

When I got the BFP I called him in and we had a 🥳 moment. Tbh I wouldn’t change it, I think when you both really want that BFP however you get it is going to feel AMAZING!
Plus I remember how excited I was at the time and I don’t think I could have kept it from him for a second! I even rang my mum to explode with excitement later that night!

doodlejump1980 · 21/10/2019 17:01

He knew before I did. We were sat on the stairs waiting for the 2 minutes to pass on the test, and I asked him to look at it first as I was too nervous. Wonderful moment I’ll treasure forever 😊

delilabell · 21/10/2019 17:04

I sobbed on the phone to him so hard he couldn't understand what I was saying Blush
Wed been told I was infertile, adopted our ds and not been trying. We were both a bit shocked!

20viona · 21/10/2019 17:11

Shoved the test under his nose after we had been out partying the night before 🤣🤣

GinGeum · 21/10/2019 17:17

First time I sent him a photo of the pregnancy test while he was at work. He appeared in the kitchen about 20 minutes later and I thought he was so excited he came home to see me. I squealed 'its so exciting isn't it?!' and he replied 'what? I've just come home to make a quick coffee...' so I thrust the pregnancy test in his face. He was quiet for a minute then said 'i don't know what any of these lines mean!!' so I had to spell it out. A truly special moment Grin

Second time he'd popped to sainsburys and I sent a text saying 'can you grab a pregnancy test? My period is late' and I took it when he got home. We're not very good at romantic gestures.

My friend announced it to her DH by buying him a new video game and hiding the pregnancy test underneath it.

These are great thanks for the replies!

@doodlejump1980 that sounds like a lovely moment 😊

He was at his friends shaving his friends back before a lads holiday (don't ask)

Rang him and said you need to come home now!

mrsc1987 · 21/10/2019 17:50

Hubby works away alot, the day i tested it was a cheapy so the line was barely visible and i wasn't even sure it was positive, i sent him a picture asking if he could see it, he said maybe so the next morning.i tested with a frer and was very obviously positive, sent him a pic at 5am saying good morning daddy, had to wait then for him to wake up and phone me

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 21/10/2019 18:03

Ours is ivf baby so he knew when we were testing. waved the stick in his face both doing a joyous jig around the bedroom

1Supersonic · 21/10/2019 18:09

Hi. I can remember when I found out I was pregnant with my last child. My DH was dashing going to work. I had just done the test and I simply said are you going to give us both a hug.

MrsJoshNavidi · 21/10/2019 18:38

We did the test together. He looked because I wouldn't

MrsJoshNavidi · 21/10/2019 18:39

The second time, he knew before I did a test. He said I smelled different.

thenightfury · 21/10/2019 18:49

We both started work at 6am on the day I took the test so I woke up earlier than him and woke him up with the positive test. I couldn't have surprised him anymore, he knew when I was due on my period 🤣

Alarae · 21/10/2019 18:53

Came downstairs with the test and said that I had been reading online that this brand could give false positives. Also had to explain to him what two lines meant.

As I was in disbelief he marched me out to get another test, by which point I had no wee left!

Two hours later the 'pregnant' on the clear blue couldn't be mistaken!

It was a bit of a shock really and took a while to sink in as it happened so quick (first cycle). Was fully expecting the average 6 months to a year.

PowerslidePanda · 21/10/2019 19:56

I bought one of those "x days til Baby Panda is due" blackboard countdowns and wrapped it and gave it to him. When I handed it over, he didn't guess what it was and later told me he'd been panicking that he'd forgotten some important anniversary Grin

AngeloMysterioso · 21/10/2019 20:39

I found out two days before Valentine’s Day, so DH’s Valentine’s Day present was an Arsenal babygrow.

llwynogbach · 21/10/2019 20:48

Ran into the living room at great speed clutching a pregnancy test exclaiming "I'm pregnant". We didn't think we could conceive naturally and were due to start the IVF process the next day. Poor man was in the middle of his Sunday fry up and didn't know what to do with himself, he later confessed I came out of the bathroom so fast and looking so shocked he thought I'd set fire to the bathroom 🤣

CherryPavlova · 21/10/2019 20:52

I said Im going to do a test since I feel so sick and am a week late. He came with me. We watched a pink spot appear.

Rosecottage888 · 21/10/2019 21:07

Thanks for all your replies, got some thinking to do!!

@AngeloMysterioso did you manage to keep it quiet for two days!?

I nearly peed with excitement waiting for DH to get home from work. I ran up to him and said "oh look daddy's home" and waved the stick in his face. He thought I was being really weird saying that until he saw the test. There's no way I could have waited and thought of a fun way to tell him. I was bursting at the seams with excitement.

AngeloMysterioso · 21/10/2019 21:23

@Rosecottage888 yep!! On the 12th the lines on the FRER tests were so faint I thought I might be hallucinating. On the 13th got a BFP with a Clearblue digital, got the babygrow on the way home from work that evening, gave it to him first thing in the morning on Valentine’s Day. I had always thought the babygrow would be a fun way to tell him, so giving it to him as a Valentine’s Day gift seemed pretty perfect!

RoLaren · 21/10/2019 21:27

My husband was in the middle of writing his dissertation so I decided to keep it quiet for a week or two. Unfortunately on the second day I left a positive pregnancy test on the side by mistake and he found it. Ah, well. He still got a first!

Buyitinbamboo · 21/10/2019 21:31

These are so lovely. With both of mine he knew when I was due anyway so it wouldn't have been a surprise but as it happens I needed him to confirm the positive both times are the lines were faint.
