Hi ladies, just woke up to nip to the loo (every bloody hour) and my hands felt very swollen. I decided to take my wedding & engagement rings off and almost couldn't! I know swelling can be normal, has this happened to anyone else so suddenly? I have a sore, red mark where my rings were they've swollen so much!

You should call your MW - Sudden swelling can be a sign of pre eclampsia

Hope all's okay but better safe than sorry

Definitely give your midwife or pregnancy unit a call, like PP says it can be a sign.

I decided to see if the swelling went down, I may have just been hot during the night, but they're still swollen. Are there any sure fire signs of preeclampsia that I should look out for??

Swelling of hands, feet or face, high blood pressure, headache etc. I'd phone if they still haven't gone down. Don't leave it. They will tell you what to do over the phone.

Please call them ASAP! Sure it’s fine but you need to be checked.

My hands are like this every morning, along with severe joint pain in my knuckles. I can barely bend/clasp my fingers. It usually subsided after an hour or so. Only happens when I'm sleeping too, never throughout the day. But it did start suddenly and the same as you I cannot wear ring at the moment due to general hand/finger swelling.

It's not pre eclampsia in my case but you're definitely better off checking!

I have carpal tunnel which sounds like what you have @l12d04
It's a common thing to have in pregnancy and should disappear after giving birth.

It's one of those annoying pregnancy things that could either be totally normal or a life-or-death situation. Phone your pregnancy department and see what they say- you're not qualified to diagnose it and not are we.

How are you doing, OP?

Andersonx3 · 21/10/2019 09:13

Hands were very painful last night, had shooting type pains through some of my fingers, they felt better through the night though. Still swollen and I had the smallest sniff at a headache this morning. I've come to work, I think I'll give the MAU a call after work and see what they advise.
