Waiting for scan

Hi mumsnet...
So i am 11 weeks pregnant today, I have my first scan on Wednesday evening when I'll be 11 weeks & 4 days. To say I am anxious is such an understatement. I have had 2 miscarriages in the past so I know that is why I am feeling so anxious. I had my little boy in between those so I know things can go right too. This has been the longest wait ever. I can't stop myself from looking on google at miscarriage posts, statistics etc, even though I know how unhelpful it is!
Is anyone else nearing their scan & feeling the same? How are you getting by?!

Hi @CurlyJB88 I am nowhere near my first scan (5+2 today) but feel exactly the same. I am 35, have PCOS and this is my very first pregnancy. I'm finding that I can't really relax and allow myself to get excited as I am so aware of how quickly it all could all come to an end.

I am going to have a private scan at 8 week (assuming I make it that far 🤞) as there's no way I can wait almost 2 months for the 12 week scan.

I don't have any advice on how to deal with the worry other than, stop researching miscarriage stats. Think positive and take each day as it comes. I know that's far easier said than done but there is nothing else you can really do.

I hope your scan goes well, I'm sure it will x

Boymummy3 · 19/10/2019 20:09

Definitely stop looking at miscarriage stats... that wont help you worrying at all. Its perfectly normal even if you hadn't had previous miscarriages to feel anxious for the first scan. I'm on my 4rd pregnancy (3rd baby) and for some reason before every scan upto now 8+6wk 12wk 20wk & even one last week at 24+5 I'm now (25+6) I've not let myself get overally joyfully. Not sure why because with my 1st and my 3rd after my mmc I never once thought of anything bad happening lol. It was only once I got to the stage of feeling baby move that I actually started to get excited over having another baby! Our minds can be daft at times lol. Congratulations though on your pregnancy xxx

CurlyJB88 · 19/10/2019 20:34

Congratulations both of you on your pregnancies! I know what you mean, I should be so happy, it's taken us a while to get pregnant & so far so good but I just can not let myself be happy due to the fear of it very quickly being taken away from me again. I am dying for this scan on Wednesday & hoping that it helps me to relax a bit!
Good luck with your pregnancies! Xx

Definitely stop looking at miscarriage stats, etc. You need to focus on the positive and absorb the good information. The more you focus on the bad the more you are going to work yourself up & get stressed which isn't good for anyone and you'll just get stuck in a negative rut.

On a plus - 4 days and you'll get to put your mind at ease when you see your little one floating around happy and healthy 😘

CurlyJB88 · 19/10/2019 22:23

I know it's silly. I think it's my way of preparing myself for the worst. I can't wait to actually enjoy it.
Fingers crossed that will happen for me after wednesday Smile

One thing I read when I got pregnant again after my miscarriage was - 'this time it's new sperm and a new egg so you have just as much as a good change as everyone else to have a healthy pregnancy'
It really helped me out when I thought about it.

I read miscarriage statistics every week like you so I cant judge you on that. Have you had any scans or will this be your first this pregnancy?

CurlyJB88 · 20/10/2019 20:29

@Sparkle0109 thank you, that's so true & a good way to look at it.
I haven't actually had any early scans no. I have thought so much about paying to go for an early scan but even having one of those doesn't guarantee anything so i didn't. Also my last miscarriage didn't happen til nearly 11 weeks so I just thought i'd wait but boy has it been hard! Since i got my scan date last week I have barely slept. 3 days to go. I am so nervous.
Are you pregnant right now?

Sparkle0109 · 20/10/2019 21:11

I genuinely hope everything is ok and you get to see little on the scan!
Yeah I am 24 weeks pregnant now and had numerous scans due to me being a nervous wreck - its only really since the 20 week I am allowing myself to relax a little.
The morning of my 12 week scan was horrible I was awake since 4.30 and was on the brink of tears by time I arrived for my appointment

Be sure to keep us updated ! Wishing all the best !

CurlyJB88 · 20/10/2019 21:14

@Sparkle0109 thank you! I will do Smile
Congratulations on your pregnancy! When does that mean you are due?
It'll be such a relief after the 20 week scan, although I'm sure i'll just find something else to worry about. It sounds pretty normal from all the other threads I have read 😂
My scan isn't until 19:05 (so late) so Wednesday will be a LONG day!

Due 9th feb 😊
Oh yeah, I find there is always something to worry about, after I started to relax after 20 week scan I now worry when I dont have much movement. Pregnancy turns us crazy Haha!
Try and keep yourself as busy as possible to try and kill time and have positive thoughts, it will soon be here

JenDaw · 21/10/2019 14:49

@CurlyJB88 Hi! I'm in pretty much the same boat as you- 11 weeks yesterday, 2x miscarriages with an amazing DS in between... one of those mc was at 11 weeks too (it was a mmc) which is why I still don't feel confident...

I had an early scan due to pain at 7 weeks- but this only eased my anxiety for a day! I've got my scan a week on Tuesday, literally don't know whether I'm excited or if I'm terrified!

We just need to try and stay positive- hope you're day tomorrow doesn't drag too much! And hope all is well xx

CurlyJB88 · 21/10/2019 16:46

@JenDaw aw wow that all sounds exactly the same as me!!
Little boy in between the 2 MC.
2 days til my scan! Its horrible all this counting down isn't it.
Congratulations on your pregnancy! How are you feeling? Other than the anxiety?
Xx

JenDaw · 21/10/2019 23:07

@CurlyJB88 thanks, congratulations to you too :) I'm ok, sickly feeling has started to subside now- and not as tired... just hoping that's all normal. My son has just turned 3 so have forgotten what it's like! I know, the dreaded count down- awful isn't it. The next one will be just as bad to 20 lol! How are you feeling other than the nervousness?xx

CurlyJB88 · 22/10/2019 16:32

@JenDaw Yes my symptoms have definitely started to subside, much less nauseous & tired now. Again same, hoping that its ok!
My son is 5, quite a big age gap but i know he will be so happy when we get to finally tell him he is having a sibling, he has always wanted one!
Ah god nerves are through the roof today, god knows how will feel this time tomorrow! Sounds bad but i can not wait for it to be over with to put my mind at rest (hopefully)
Hope you are doing ok! Xx

OP posts:
JenDaw · 23/10/2019 09:49

@CurlyJB88 Yes I'm good thanks- trying to get through a rubbish work week then have some time off around my scan date! So hopefully can try to chill beforehand (yeah right with a toddler lol). Aww, that's still a nice gap- he'll be able to help out with little bits too which will be nice for him. I had to tell my little boy as he's quite boisterous and it wasn't fair to keep saying mummy's got a poorly tummy (he kept feeling sad for me). So I'm extra nervous for things to go well! Today's the day for you!!! Hope all goes well and your not kept waiting too long!

anniebeebax · 23/10/2019 10:11

Good luck everyone. It's a long road ahead... 22 weeks currently and I think after a miscarriage you never feel 'out of the woods.'.

Sparkle0109 · 23/10/2019 20:59

@CurlyJB88 how did your scan go ??

CurlyJB88 · 23/10/2019 21:35

@Sparkle0109 it went amazing! I'm so shocked & relieved! Can't even put in to words at the moment haha 😆
