12 week scan next week what to expect?

Hi everyone
Have my dating and screening scan next week and was just wondering a few things they don’t tell you specifically in the info I was sent with the appointment letter!

Do they tell you the nuchel fold measurement at the scan or do they not say anything about it at the time and only use it to create the risk factor so I won’t know?

Also I assume blood will be taken at the appointment too? Had lots at booking in but I think I read though that they need ones at the time of the scan? It says they combine the measurement with the results of the blood test but didn’t state that I’d have another blood test at the scan appointment?

Feeling a little conflicted about the scan now so happy and finally getting to the see the baby but equally or more sonscared that they’ll not find a heartbeat or something will be wrong!

Thanks!

For mine they told me the NT measurement there and then and confirmed it was within the 'normal' range.

After the scan I was sent to another room for the blood test - very quick, just one vial I assume.

Hope all goes well x

They told me then and there but alone a normal nuchal fold measurement doesn't mean low risk necessarily.

They used the bloods from my booking in appointment for mine, I think.

I had mine yesterday. Had height and weight taken then a flu jab, followed by the scan. I asked about measurements but they were written in my notes anyway. After the scan i had to pee into a pot and then decant into a tube to be sent off. Finally i had blood taken.

Hope that helps x

Hope your scan goes well!

For mine they looked at baby first and got the measurements they needed. They told me everything was looking fine with no issues but you have to wait for the definite letter or call as they factor in things like your age etc too I think.

They took blood in the room and said if you get a call it meant higher risk which would be within a few days and a letter meant lower risk which could be up to two weeks.

Weighed me and printed a scan report for my notes and that was about it 😊

Thanks everyone just wondered how it all worked!
Booking in appointment was at 8 weeks and so much info I’m sure the midwife explained some of this to me but I couldn’t take everything in!
I know it all varies so much for each hospital/region as well.

I've got my scan on Tuesday. I had my bloods taken Monday just gone and the results will be with the sonographer at my scan. I'm assuming I'll be given my risk then? It's been 8yrs since my last 12 week scan so can't remember anything more lol.

I’ve got my scan next week at 11+3 (I had to rearrange because of work/travel) and I’ve got a completely irrational fear that they’re going to tell me I’m not actually pregnant.

Anybody else feel like this? It’s my first ever pregnancy so literally every day is strange and weird for me 😂

GroggyLegs · 18/10/2019 16:04

Emiliet - yep, I also had a fear that I'd made it all up, read the test wrong & I wasn't pregnant! I was.

I also gasped in shock when my baby was upside down Grin

emiliet123 · 18/10/2019 16:14

😂 glad I’m not alone/insane! Can’t wait to see my lil spud though, upside down or not 😝

Jen306 · 18/10/2019 18:53

Haha yes I’m the same - what if there’s nothing there?! Strange how our minds work!

It's different at each hospital though. Mine does bloods then scan then send you off for a coffee for about 45 minutes then you come back and get the combined risk result that day.

They're still so small at 12 weeks too so I remember being horrified at the scan because when they first put the probe on, it looked like there was nothing there until they did some technical whizzing 🙈

Good thoughts to everyone due their scans soon ❤️
