Mattress for carycot

Hi, this is probably a stupid question but thought I would ask any way. I know the guidelines say to get a new cot mattress for each baby but do you also need to get a new mattress for a pushchair carrycot? I've got a new cot mattress already for my second child who, hopefully like the first, will be sleeping in a cot from day one. However I was wondering if I need to buy a replacement mattress for my pram carrycot as well. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

I’m not sure what the actual guidelines are but if it was a carrycot mattress that your first child used I’d use it for the second. I think if it was bought second hand I’d change it as you don’t know whether people had been smoking around the pram etc but if you’re happy I wouldn’t say you’d need a new one if you’re happy with it!

I used the existing one for my second child. My eyes are always on him when he's in his pram and he's always on his back. Plus he gets plenty of fresh air when we're out. I just washed everything before baby came, just to get the dirt and dust off.

I’d probably reuse it depending on how much they slept in it, like if they were practically in it most of the day for naps/out walking for 6 months I’d maybe replace it if it looked to sag.. they aren’t expensive really either (I think a Moses basket mattress fits in ours) and how long it’s been stored where.. like a musty smell off a garage kind of thing

Thank you for your replies. It's been stored in the spare room for past 18 months and does have a waterproof cover on it. I will have a look at it over the weekend when I start sorting out all the old baby bits. Just so much to think about and get prepared
