Anyone awake? Stomach bug and dehydration 37+6

I'm 99% certain I have a stomach bug, despite no D&V. DS was sick yesterday (just once) and so was a friend and her DS that we saw on the weekend. I had awful, regular stomach cramps for about 12 hours yesterday, plus feeling very cold and achy. I had a softer poop than normal but not loose, iykwim.

I went to bed at 7pm and have been up and down to wee 3 times and its nor a lot and very very dark, even on the tissue when I wipe. I'm keeping fluids down but I'm actually struggling to take any in because I'm so burpy and sick feeling. Should I call the midwife in the morning for dehydration? I know I should force fluids in but I really really can't, and I'm still full of aches and pains, especially in my neck, and I have had a headache the whole day as well (although don't feel chilled to the bone now)

Is anyone awake? I almost wish I could just get this bug going and be done with it but apparently its not happening right now. Help!!!

If you are feeling poorly at the moment then I would at least phone the NHS number ( 111 ? ) where you can explain symptoms and get advice. If you feel worse than that then do phone an emergency number . If you are pregnant not worth battling through for the sake of a phone call I would say.

Sorrry to hear your unwell. I would definitely call 111 just to be on the safe side, particularly if you can’t force yourself to drink anything. Do you have rehydration sachets? Might be for tomorrow only but you could make ice cubes out of them and suck?

I would call the midwives or whoever and just make a note of it. I was 37+6 just over 3 weeks ago and had similar which turned into vomiting which then turned into contractions and after calling my hospital/midwives who were nonchalant in their "come in if you feel like it" attitude I got to hospital and gave birth 45 minutes later.. I was horribly dehydrated and needed an IV of fluids and then stayed hospital for the next 4 days since Bub was 2 weeks early.. all was fine but that late in pregnancy something as innocuous like that can bring on labour.

Don't call your midwives as this isn't an issue relating to your pregnancy. If you're really feeling that unwell it's either your GP or 111 for ooh. Lollipops could help your dehydration if you're struggling with fluids

Morning, no advice but here if you want to chat.

Thanks everyone, I've managed about 100ml since posting so will keep trying until the morning and see if I feel any worse. Lollipops and ice is a good idea too :)

I called the midwife yesterday as I wasn't sure if the stomach cramps were bug related or contractions so it should be noted anyway, they were about 20-30 minutes apart and about 30-40 seconds each for hours and then started tapering off so mustn't have been anything labour-like. I'm just concerned with how dark my wee is! I've never seen it so dark, but I guess maybe I'm extra dehydrated due to baby?

Honestly feel like I've been hit by a bus with not only pregnancy aches but this bug too, still supposed to be working this week too but as DS was sent home, I had to come home too. I normally have a fairly high fluid intake so I think it's made me feel doubly worse not being able to get it in.

Thanks again for everyone who is up and replying. The middle of the night is a lonely time

OP it might be darker than usual as baby takes what it needs first, and your body gets whatever is left; as long as you've mentioned it to the midwives keep an eye on it and hope you feel better soon. The fact you've been able to keep more fluids down now sounds very promising.

Thanks to everyone who replied last night, was getting myself in a bit of a worry there. Chills and sicky feeling have subsided so now I'm just dealing with headache and aching which is more likely from the lack of fluids but they are going down easier this morning :)

I've genuinely never felt so unwell without actually having D&V as well. DS is feeling better too so hopefully we can have a happier day today and back to school and work tomorrow for the last few days!

I had this except at the end of last week. I had very watery stools and small amounts of dark urine. The GP sent me straight to the maternity unit where I was admitted and put on a drip overnight. They gave me my own room and toilet due to the diarrhoea.
Go get checked!

amehh · 15/10/2019 21:47

@GingerRogers84 thanks for your reply - sorry to hear you were poorly! I've checked in with the midwives today and they are happy for me to be home as long as I'm happy with movements and I'm getting fluids down - I've managed 2L today although it has been a struggle at times and my urine looks only a bit darker than normal now so I'm not so worried as I was last night.

What a carry on! Definitely didn't need all that at nearly 38 weeks! Fingers crossed a good nights sleep sorts the rest out!

@amehh glad you're on the mend! Smile
I'm only 18 weeks at the moment and I think the GP was just being cautious and not trusting me to drink tonnes of water! 😂
Not long for you now! 😍
