Can it still be ectopic with high HCG?

Hello,

I'm 4+5 and my HCG levels went from 1090 on Fri to 2900 yesterday. Today i've had a really sharp pain at the top of shoulder, I've had no bleeding or stomach cramps, just the shoulder pain. Is it possible to have an ectopic pregnancy even with high HCG?

I've called my local EPU who have told me to take paracetamol and attend my scan on Saturday that was already booked prior to the pain.

Thank you

Just incase anybody was wondering, it can indeed still be an ectopic pregnancy even with a HCG over 6,000

Waiting for my surgery now :(

@bol87 @GreatCustomerCervix

Thank you. Bit of a weird one, had my operation and they couldn't find the pregnancy in my tubes...

Waiting to see a doctor this morning to find out what's going on

I'm sorry OP, have you started bleeding? I had an early identified ectopic but the pregnancy passed before they needed to do anything. I think body can absorb it too?

GoldLeafTree · 18/10/2019 08:36

@foodname no bleeding and HCG still rising, no ectopic found during my laparoscopy. I've no idea what's going on!

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

Are they classing it as a pregnancy of unknown location?

The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust have some helpful information on their website, they're lovely people and can offer emotional support too.

@MrsMaiseIsMuff Thank you so much. Yes it's currently a pregnancy of unknown location. I saw the consultant this morning who thinks we will see the foetus developing normally within the next week. There is a " fluid filled area " in my uterus that they think will be the sac.

Thank you I will look them up.

@nachofries @foodname Thank you, I'm having another HCG blood test tonight which will tell us a bit more about what's going on. The Consultant has said it's definitely not ectopic so that's some comfort but I'm not sure why I had surgery or what they saw on the scan to make them think it was ectopic.

Yes you can have high hcg and no bleeding or even pain really - both of my ectopics were live (meaning they had heartbeats) and ruptured at around 17,000

Shoulder tip pain is very rare and happens when you've already got internal bleeding up to the diaphragm- it's incredibly painful when it ruptures so you'd know about it before then
