Miscarriage - how do I know when I've passed the sac

Hello. Sorry for TMI but I'm obsessing over this and wondered if anyone can help. I had had some bleeding and brown spotting on the Wednesday and had scan at EPU Friday where they said my baby measured 6wks (8wks since my last period) but no heartbeat.

On Saturday I had about 6hrs of particularly heavy bleeding and one occasion I went to the loo and about 3 lumps fell out of me, plopped into the toilet bowl and sunk amongst bloodied water. This meant I wasnt able to look at them to see if it was clots or if the sac was amongst them.

My cramps have been sore but only as bad as a bad period cramp. A lot of the stuff I've read on here and other forums seems to suggest that the cramps of miscarriage are much worse and are more like labour contractions.

Today I have had continued bleeding but both the cramps and the bleeding are much lighter.

I know it's an odd question but I wondered if anyone had any idea if there are any clues here as to whether I have passed the sac yet.

I'm wondering if this is over or if there can be a lull and then the 'main event' happens a few days later.

I also wonder if the fact that I haven't really been doubled over in pain - haven't needed painkillers once - would mean that I haven't passed that yet. I have a low pain threshold so its not the case that I'm just being brave and not making a fuss. The pain really hasnt been any worse than a normal period cramp.

If I am able to recognise passing the sac I wanted to dispose more kindly than flushing the loo as I think it would make me feel better. I just dont know if I have missed it 😔

Op sounds like you probably have at 6 weeks it will only be small and I've heard pains are like a period. Try not to worry and I'm so sorry for your loss

I had a mc at 8 weeks when the baby looked about 6 weeks big. By the time it happened the sac had collapsed in on itself and while I did look for it I never saw it on any toilet trips. It was not a physically painful process either. The biggest thing that came out was the placenta, about 7-8cm long. I told my friend who is a midwife about this though (she also worked for years on EGU) and she was quite surprised by the size of it. Either I was further along than I thought or it was abnormally big for some reason.

The whole process is worrying especially when you don't know if it's finished. Mine stopped and started until I suddenly had a massive bleed for a few hours one evening. It was like partially set jelly.

Do you have a scan booked to check for retained products? Sorry for your loss xxxx

Sorry you are having to go through this Flowers

I had a loss when it was about the size of a 6 week baby. It didn’t hurt, just period cramps. Heavy bleeding lasted a couple of hours, bleeding was followed by period level of blood which lasted about 4 days after the products came out.

Maximum TMI, the sac was about the size of a fair sized pea. If it hadn’t have come away on the paper when I wiped, I would never of seen it. Didn’t particularly feel it coming out. I would guess that if everything is settling bleeding/cramps wise then it would’ve already passed, sorry.

Please take the time to grieve, a loss is a loss. Sorry OP xx
