Group B strep and antibiotics at 34 weeks?

Hi girls.

I went to my docs for a vaginal swab as I felt something was off and it came back I had group b strep. I also had the same infection at 21 weeks and was given a dose of antibiotics last time which I took. They have prescribed me with more antibiotics for this time round but I don’t know if I should take them as I’ve read that you only need them during labour. I’m worried if I take another dose of amoxicillin then it will start to do more harm than good in terms of building a resistance to antibiotics and I’m worried it will harm baby. Any advice? Xx

It won't harm the baby.

I'm stepB (and have been in my previous pregnancies) haven't had antibiotics before labour (they usually only give those if it's present in your urine) but taking then worn do you or baby any harm.

When you're in labour they'll be via IV

Antibiotics wont harm your baby at all otherwise we wouldn't be prescribed them. I've never had this so cant really comment on that but if they are giving you them then you should really be taking them xx

If they give you now antibiotics it’s probably because strep b is active now.

Had strep b in my last pregnancy but didn’t need antibiotics until active labour.

Group b strep doesn't cause any problems in pregnancy. If you feel well I wouldn't take them.

You will need antibiotics once waters are gone though to protect your baby.
