I know this may be a sensitive subject for some people but I really need some help I had a medical termination at 9 weeks 5 days on Wednesday I started to bleed about 8 hours later and continued until today where its slowed down. I'm worried it's not worked as I have not passed a single clot or bit of tissue neither have I had any cramping etc, does this sound normal? Could it of worked? I called the unit and they told me to wait 4 weeks and take a pregnancy test which is no help at all has anyone been through similar and it's worked? Thankyou

I don’t know if there’s a women’s health board on here but that might be a more appropriate place for this post? You may get more responses.

I can’t give you an answer based on experience but I’ve had medical management following two of my miscarriages. One worked same day but the other failed twice so eventually had to have an ERPC. Imagine it could go the same way with a termination.

Surely you have a follow up appointment to check for retained products of conception? If not thats terrible.

They can cause infection.

Call them back and talk to them about this.

RoLaren · 12/10/2019 21:20

If you were aborting a healthy pregnancy you would definitely have passed a recognisable foetus at 9 weeks. Could you pay for an early scan privately if your abortion provider won't?

ALifeMoreCurious · 12/10/2019 21:27

Echo @CAG12 just remembered that’s something I had following both. I was scanned within days of taking the medication. So definitely something to ask about on Monday.

Paisley123 · 12/10/2019 22:51

I'm new to this website and I couldn't find another topic to post on I apologise if this isnt the right one. No I have no follow up appointment just been told to take a pregnancy test in 4 weeks, they were really unhelpful when I called as I definitely knew something wasnt right. I will call tomorrow if they are open thankyou so much for your replies, something definitely is different from how they told me it would be i knew it from the beginning now I'm completely changing my mind about this whole situation. Thanks so much again

If you post on pregnancy choices you will get advice there as this is a pregnancy board.

sherbetmelon · 24/10/2019 19:25

Did you manage to get a scan OP?

Darkstar4855 · 24/10/2019 19:29

At nine weeks you’d expect to pass noticeable clots/tissue and probably have some cramping too. It might just need a bit more time for things to happen but I would definitely give them a ring if nothing’s happened by Monday.

VapeVamp12 · 24/10/2019 22:21

From experience I’d definitely say you’d experience quite bad cramping and pass clots over the first 24 hours of taking the second lot of medication.

I think I’d ask to be seen or ask another experienced doctor for their advice.

Good luck

If you were aborting a healthy pregnancy you would definitely have passed a recognisable foetus at 9 weeks

Is this just to make the OP feel bad? At 9 weeks the foetus could easily not be “recognisable”.

Confusion77 · 24/10/2019 22:28

Hi OP, last week I had a medical termination at 8wks 6 days. I had no cramping, bled for about 3 hours but did pass clots. If you bled heavily you may not have noticed them. I didn't see anything recognisable, just clots.

I was given a pregnancy test to use after 2 weeks. The nurse stressed that this was not a standard test, but one specifically for after termination. We're you given one?

Confusion77 · 24/10/2019 22:29

Just to add, I had a further several.hours of heavy bleeding and clots yesterday . I'm no longer suffering morning sickness and can stay awake past 9pm so am hoping it worked.

watermelon21 · 24/10/2019 22:30

Hi. I had a surgical one so not much use there, but obviously with a surgical they remove all tissue so no need to pass big clots but I still had 2 weeks of heavy bleeding. Also worked on a gynae ward as a student nurse and they kept people on the ward until a big clot passed. Only thing you can really do is wait though unfortunately as they wouldn’t give you another tablet without proof it hasn’t worked the first time. Hope all goes smoothly x

Paisley123 · 24/10/2019 23:50

It's been over 2 weeks now and I still havm't passed anything noticable, I've had no cramps either (at all) and was told to just wait 4 weeks, but by then I'll be around 16 weeks (if this hasnt worked) and definitely will not be going through with anything else medical /surgical.. I bled, it was just like a heavy period. I've been with my cousin quite a few years ago and I remember them keeping her in until she had passed something. I just feel completely fobbed off by them but I shall see in around 2 weeks. Also no I wasnt given a special test was just told to take my own, I did one today that came back postive but of course I cant rely on this until the 4 week mark. thanks so much for your replies I appreciate them and I'm sorry again for posting on this topic x

Where did you go for it @Paisley123? Mine was bpas. They also say that if it doesn't work they strongly advise you have further treatment to end the pregnancy, as the 2 drugs you take can cause significant birth defects. Can you go back , or to the gp and ask for a test or a scan?

TildaTurnip · 24/10/2019 23:55

I would call back. If no help again, I think I’d call 111. In my area they are helpful for signposting.

CAG12 · 25/10/2019 07:25

Id defo contact the clinic. The gynae team in my hospital wont see anyone in this situation unless the bleeding is uncontrollable (having to change pads every hour) or theres no passing in 3 weeks.

Also you wont pass anything like a recognisable foetus. Its more likely to be either a heavy bleed with some clots.
